Adjunct Faculty - Counseling and Therapy Department (MFT)

The Department of Counseling and Therapy at Manhattan College seeks outstanding applicants for a part-time Adjunct Professor for the Marriage and Family Therapy Program. The start date is in August 2023. This search is open to candidates specializing in all areas of Marriage and Family Therapy with special consideration given to those with expertise in the areas of 1) working with diverse populations 2) social justice, equity and inclusion, and 3) using digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning, including teaching online.

Successful candidates will hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field. Candidates will demonstrate a proven commitment to teaching and advising students.

We seek faculty members with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity, to attract and retain a diverse, talented student body. Manhattan College and its faculty view research scholarship and education as mutually supportive activities. Candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with full-time faculty in research if they so desire. A successful candidate must be committed to the teacher-scholar model at a primarily teaching institution.

The Marriage and Family Therapy Program is a 60-credit program, approved by New York State since 2016. Given an increased focus from New York State on social and emotional learning and mental health programming for students, agencies, and families, the roles of mental health professionals have never been more important. Manhattan College is well positioned to meet this call in developing mental health professionals. The Counseling and Therapy Department has strong and intimate relationships with the surrounding communities in the Bronx in NYC, Westchester, and New Jersey presenting opportunities for collaborations around teaching, research, and service endeavors.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities. It is the responsibility of the adjunct instructor to provide content for and teach the following classes: Family Therapy Models and Contemporary Couples Therapy.

Qualifications

  • Must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent in Marriage and Family Therapy or related area.
  • Hold New York State Licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist or related license.
  • Outstanding clinical training, experience and supervision skills.

Physical Requirements: Some light lifting associated with setting up computers, document cameras, or other hardware needed for conducting a mixed in-person plus remote class.

Salary range:

Instructor $4,431.83

Assistant Professor $4,578.76

Associate Professor $4,726.94

Professor $4,875.13
