Job Description
The Newhouse School seeks a talented administrative assistant to support various professors in need of assistance with office operations, event planning, and support for their varied teaching and research activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. 3-5 plus years’ experience preferably in an educational environment.

Responsibilities
Administrative Assistance
- Provide high level administrative assistance to the School’s endowed chairs, as assigned (dependent on current combination of chairs and their needs). Requires considerable independent judgment and the ability to multi-task in support of various professors and projects.
- Serve as primary gatekeeper including all calendar, meeting, speaking, committee, and event requests. High level of professionalism and tact required.
Project Support
- Assist with all aspects of research and/or creative projects undertaken by the endowed chairs, including working with the School’s Associate Dean for Research’s Office for grant submissions, reporting requirements, etc.
- Coordinate hiring and overseeing research assistants as needed.
Event Planning & Execution

Independent project management for planning and executing all aspects of events and activities sponsored by the endowed chairs.
Travel & Finance Processes
- Research and execute all planning for travel for the endowed chairs, as well as for all guests, speakers, etc.
- Oversee all financial processes required for reconciling purchases, reimbursements, travel expenses, etc. incurred by the endowed chairs or sponsored projects under their auspices.
Office Administration
- Independently manage and oversee the daily operations of the Endowed Chair Suite as the primary staff presence in the office; requires ability to analyze and research solutions for a wide variety of issues encountered on a daily basis.
- Monitors, prioritizes, responds and redirects (as appropriate) all communication to the Endowed Chair Suite, including all email, telephone calls, walk ins, mail and other correspondence.
