Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to be based in Roanoke, VA.

This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing bridge design utilizing hand calculations, Excel workbooks, and advanced structural analysis software to determine applied loading, demand requirements, and appropriate foundation and member specifications under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Preparing technical sketches, drawings, specifications and reports under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Assisting with inspection of existing bridges and other structures.
  • Coordinating with other in-house engineering disciplines as needed.
  • Performing condition assessments and site visits as needed. Occasional short to medium term site visits may also become necessary depending on project requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Master of Science (with Structural Engineering concentration).
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO Codes and Bridge Engineering practices.
  • Structural problem analysis skills (including knowledge/use of design and calculation tools, software).
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenBridge, and/or AutoCAD.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with clients in a professional manner.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Available for periodic travel.
  • Relevant intern/co-op/work experience.

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Roanoke, VA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Roanoke, VA on a scheduled basis.
