Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Engineering Intern to be based in Rocky Hill, CT.

This position is expected to begin in May/June 2025.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.
  • Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study. These duties are expected to include both field and office experience.
  • When performing routine fieldwork, intern will work under the supervision of field task leaders to collect and analyze data. When conducting field-based work, expected work hours are 6:00/6:30 AM (arrive onsite) through mid- to late-afternoon (site departure).
  • Frequently lifting, carrying, and loading field equipment such as sample coolers up to 20 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequently moving across a variety of uneven terrains such as mud, rock, grass, dirt, and other unpaved terrains to conduct field work.
  • Frequently working in adverse seasonal weather conditions.
  • When performing field- and office- based tasks, intern will develop knowledge of job-specific federal, state and local laws and regulations and assigned job specifications. Intern will support preparing progress reports for internal and external stakeholders, as well as attend meetings and report on project tasks.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates should be interested in a focus on environmental remediation. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. 
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking, and time-management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong research and report writing.
  • Proficiency in standard office suite software applications (especially Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).

Additional Information

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.
  • 25% field work is required.
