Join our community and experience Emerson College!

The Department of Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College seeks applications for an adjunct position for the 2023 Fall Academic Semester to teach VM131: Approaches to Media Studies.

This course is part of a new foundations program in the Visual & Media Arts major; multiple sections of each will be offered each semester and coordinated by a Foundations Director. The fall semester will run from September 5 to December 16, 2023.

Emerson College believes the pathway to achieving inclusive excellence and fostering a campus climate where everyone can thrive is only possible in an authentically equitable, accessible, and socially just environment. As a community of storytellers, we continually strive to cultivate a community that draws upon the widest possible pool of talent, fully embracing individuals from varied cultures, races, abilities, gender identities, sexual orientations, linguistic backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, life experiences, nationalities, perspectives, beliefs, and values. Members of historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

For the Fall 2023 term, VM131: Approaches to Media Studies runs two sections - one on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3:45pm and another on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:45pm.

This course develops students' critical thinking and writing skills about visual and media arts. Students will learn to analyze visual and media art from both formal and contextual perspectives and articulate relational connections across cultures and disciplines. Work in this course will help students identify and critique structural power imbalances, and hegemonic cultural values and media practices.

Applicants should have an academic background in Media Studies on the graduate level, and experience teaching. Advanced Ph.D. candidates are encouraged to apply. Emerson College is an EOE and committed to the standards of Inclusive Excellence. Please apply through the Emerson College portal with the following material: a cover letter, CV, and statements on (1) teaching and (2) diversity, equity, and inclusion. Questions may be addressed to Associate Chair Jun Okada at jun_okada@emerson.edu.

To apply, please upload all the required materials through the "CV/CoverLetter/Additional Documents" section in the application interface/site. You can upload each document separately or as a combined PDF. Your application will not be complete without these documents.

If you are having issues uploading, please email facultycareers@emerson.edu.
