Our Team
The Agile Team Coach is an active and contributing member of the Enterprise Agility Office (EAO), reporting to the Sr. Director of Agile DevOps and Cloud Engineering, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. The Enterprise Agility Office is the champion of all things agile at Catalina. They are responsible for leading the agile transformation, agile portfolio management, agile project management, value stream management, Scrum and Kanban design and facilitation, and coaching on agile values, principles, and practices. The EAO is a close team of people who love what they do and love helping people discover more agile ways of working that bring value to the business and more joy to our work lives.
Responsibilities
As an Agile Team Coach, you will play a pivotal role in driving Agile transformation and facilitating the success of multiple Scrum teams. Your primary responsibilities will include providing Agile coaching, training, and support to these teams, enabling them to enhance their Agile competency and improve their practices. Additionally, you will identify, develop, and implement team and organization-wide improvements, acting as a Scrum Master to facilitate the Scrum process, including planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives. Through your expertise and guidance, you will empower teams to embrace Agile principles, remove impediments to progress, and achieve their sprint objectives. Provide Agile coaching, training, and support to multiple Scrum teams, including Scrum Masters and Product Owners, for up to 4-5 teams simultaneously, enhancing Agile competency, and improving practices.
Within the first year, there may be opportunities to assume different roles such as Team Coach or RTE/VS-SM (Value Stream Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer), based on organizational needs and priorities, to further contribute to Agile transformation.
Identify actionable strategies, facilitate training workshops, and promote learning to enhance Agile practices within teams, leveraging Agile frameworks such as Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, Flow, OKR, and LPM.
Measure the success of Agile implementation efforts, document improvements achieved, and utilize frameworks like Path 2 Agility, Five Dysfunctions of a Team, and others to assess team Agile experience and enhance team agility.
Lead teams in conducting exercises to identify and implement new operational experiments, ensuring clear measures of success using actionable Agile metrics.
Embody and evangelize Agile values and principles, advocating adherence, pushing back when needed, and proactively coaching teams to foster the transformation towards an Agile value-driven culture.
Identify, develop, and implement team and organization-wide improvements, with a focus on value stream analysis and addressing gaps, pain points, and bottlenecks in the process.
Facilitate large planning events, such as SAFe PI Planning involving several Scrum teams within a single value stream over a 2-day virtual event. Collaborate with teams to create high-level, yet detailed plans for the following quarter, ensuring agreement while avoiding excessive detail.
As a Release Train Engineer (Value Stream SM), continuously improve processes, optimize flow, support the execution of quarterly objectives, and provide coaching to all value stream roles, including Business Owners, System Architects, and Product Managers.
Lead a value stream and key stakeholders through a portfolio sync, to align on strategic objectives and plans.
Facilitate the Scrum process, including planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives, with the team and Product Owner. Proactively identify and remove impediments to progress, ensuring the teams achieve the sprint objective.
Conduct retrospectives using various techniques in a virtual environment, such as basic, sailboat, iceberg, Miro, and Mural, to gather insights on what went well, what didn't go well, and areas that need improvement.
Mitigate risks and facilitate conflict resolution within the team, promoting a collaborative and productive working environment.
Drive change management efforts, applying emotional intelligence to adapt coaching approach and effectively articulate the benefits of change, enabling teams to overcome resistance and embrace improvements.
Navigate complex environments with interconnected systems, providing comprehensive training, guidance, and empowering teams to excel in understanding, collaborating, and delivering within complex systems and processes.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.
Mastery-level experience with at least 5+ years of Agile software development frameworks, including SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, XP, or DSDM, including experience as a Scrum Master and/or Value Stream Manager.
Strong facilitation skills, including experience with tools for remote meeting facilitation in virtual environments.
Strong leadership, coaching, and servant leadership skills, with a track record of leading Agile transformations at the organizational level.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented mindset, capable of facilitating large team or priority events and guiding solutions.
Excellent presentation and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with executive-level stakeholders and resolve impediments across the organization.
Self-motivated driver with the ability to make progress despite obstacles.
One or more related certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Agile Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM), Agile Product Owner (APO), or Certified Agile Leader (CAL).
Familiarity with Lean principles and practices.
Experience in coaching teams in distributed or remote environments.
Proficiency in Agile project management tools and software.
Strong understanding of Agile metrics, performance tracking, and continuous improvement.
Ability to effectively manage conflict and facilitate productive discussions within teams.
Continuous learning mindset and commitment to staying updated with the latest Agile practices and trends.
