About the role
Reporting to the Director of Applications and Technology Development, the Senior Simulation Engineer will contribute to enabling Alloy to use its novel manufacturing process to create best-in-class thermal-fluid components. They will support the simulation work of the applications team and develop and demonstrate new design strategies for high-performance geometries.
What you’ll do
Lead and execute R&D activities to differentiate thermal-fluid components made by Alloy’s process including demonstration of testing for new geometries
Review relevant academic and industrial literature to incorporate learnings into cutting-edge solutions for Alloy’s applications
Manage technical risk and identify key aspects of a solution that need to be de-risked first
Do hand calculations, select appropriate correlation coefficients, and build simple scaling models for different applications
Provide guidance and input on customer development projects
Develop playbooks on various applications
Develop and improve best practices around simulation workflows
Publish white papers on Alloy’s design capabilities
What you’ll bring
Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant field
4+ years of industry experience
Expertise in thermal-fluid simulation and analysis; including but not limited to comfort with selecting turbulence closures, running mesh refinement studies, estimating model error, extracting dimensionless correlation coefficients from simulations
Experience with a wide range of reference literature on calculating thermal and fluid behavior of components
Ability to deliver results in a quickly evolving environment, delivering estimates for thermal performance of a design within a few days to accelerate customer-facing projects
Familiarity with design engineering work specifically, an understanding of what an engineering design process looks like and how their work informs that process
