Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Communications Advisor who will help develop and implement AltaLink’s brand management strategy and corporate messaging to ensure its consistent use throughout AltaLink’s communications.

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications, the Senior Communications Advisor will be part of a team dedicated to high-quality and innovative communications practices. We’re looking for a strategic thinker, a great writer, and a tech-savvy communicator to join our team and promote AltaLink’s reputation with all of our stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Implement AltaLink’s brand management and reputation management strategy.
  • Lead the development and execution of a variety of communication and change management strategies that support business objectives (e.g., AltaLink’s annual sustainability report, wildfire safety awareness, transmission project materials, employee engagement initiatives, community investment, etc.).
  • Daily development, writing and editing of high-quality content for miscellaneous. communications materials including presentations, speeches, reference tools, fact sheets, correspondence, website content, media releases, disclosures, key messaging and boilerplates.
  • Manage the process for producing a wide variety of communication materials that may include project information packages, corporate profile publications, employee communications, and corporate videos.
  • Provide strategic and backup support to Manager, Corporate Communications for media relations.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of AltaLink’s crisis communications plans.
  • Act as a designated information officer within AltaLink’s incident command structure as part of the emergency response team, as required.
  • Serve as in-house editor, responsible for editing communications for consistency, accuracy and quality.
  • Lead the development and ongoing improvement of communications processes and policies.
  • Establish close working relationships with senior staff to support strategic communications initiatives and issues management.
  • Assist the Manager, Corporate Communications with mentoring junior members of the team.
  • Represent AltaLink at open houses, public events and industry meetings.
  • Support the execution of AltaLink’s corporate events.
  • Collaborate with other communications staff to ensure content meets AltaLink’s standards and facilitate distribution.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Degree or diploma in communications or public relations is required.
  • Minimum of seven years’ communications experience in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities. 
  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal), including solid creative writing and editing skills when dealing with highly technical topics.
  • Recent experience in leading the development and execution of communication and change management strategies.
  • Experience developing compelling messaging, proof points and positioning.
  • Demonstrated ability to research complex topics, interview technical staff and interpret complex technical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to write for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Extremely detail-oriented.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to execute strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Hands-on team player with an enthusiastic attitude towards tackling new and complex tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and carry projects through to completion within a changing environment, both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive outcomes.
  • Recent experience in media relations and/or reputation management would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working with content management systems, SharePoint and other technologies.
  • Experience with analytics and measurement.
  • Experience in the electricity, energy or pipeline sectors is preferred.
  • Experience providing communications support for large infrastructure development and construction projects would be an asset.
  • Sound judgment in dealing with sensitive and/or highly confidential information.
  • Certification as a Communication Management Professional (CMP) would be an asset.
  • Proven track record of good attendance and job performance.
