Are you looking for an opportunity to use your IT skills to truly change the world for the better?  We are the leading non-profit organization that is redesigning the tools that enable public health agencies use to do their jobs.  We need committed, mission-driven technologists to help us build the next generation of public health tools for our Public Health Systems department.  Public Health Systems advances population health management and healthcare delivery through the development of public health IT systems, health information exchange and interoperability solutions. We work with State and Federal government agencies to build and develop software that impacts peoples live. 


In this role, you will have the opportunity to help Altarum modernize the public health infrastructure and make a difference in your community. Our Public Health Systems department efforts range from building the next generation technology in disease surveillance to optimizing data standards and system integrations to improve the coordination and delivery of healthcare for patients.  You’ll work in an Agile environment alongside a team of Software Developers, Business Analysts, and Public Health Analysts.


As a Business Analyst at Altarum, you will have the opportunity to help Altarum modernize the public health infrastructure and make a difference in your community. Our nationally recognized public health interoperability solutions and services are helping state and local public health increase and improve electronic data exchange. You’ll work in a collegial environment alongside a team of software and integration engineers as well as health IT analysts. This is an entry level Business Analyst position. 


Responsibilities
  • Analyze and document business processes, workflows, and use cases throughout the software development lifecycle. 
  • Observe and document current workflows and processes to fuel the creation of business requirements.  
  • Work with technical staff to translate business requirements into functional requirements and specifications. 
  • Create the necessary functional and technical documentation, from which the software development team will produce code.  
  • Plan and facilitate functional design sessions, project briefings, and status reviews. 
  • Work with project managers to identify and document technical tasks. 
  • Develop testing, validation and implementation plans and processes. 
  • Perform quality assurance analysis on HL7 V2 and CDAs messages and documents. 
  • Perform research on national interoperability standards and vocabularies. 
  • Perform data mapping and data translations from local codes to national standards (SNOMED, LOINC) 
  • Create and maintain system design and operational procedure documentation. 
  • Develop User Stories and update JIRA. 
  • Participate in testing and system validation. 


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s: Computer Information Systems, Health Information Technology, Public Health Informatics, or related field or equivalent experience. 
  • Knowledge of common healthcare workflows. 
  • Knowledge of xml schema and schematron a plus. 
  • Knowledge of processing xml documents using XQuery or other scripting tools. 
  • Knowledge of SQL or other database query language  
  • Ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources. 
  • Ability to produce requirements documents, develop use cases and process flow charts, create presentations, and to capture, track and report statistical data. 
  • Knowledge of automation processes or batch scripting 
  • Ability to interact directly with clients and effectively understand needs while managing expectations. 
  • An inquisitive and innovative nature, integrity, willingness to step into new roles, laser-like focus on deadlines, team focused mentality, and a commitment to continuously learning and improving. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication at both the business and technical level.   
  • Technical writing experience a plus. 
  • CSBA or CBAP certification a plus.  


Logistical Requirement
  • At this time we will only accept candidates who are presently eligible to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship.
  • Our organization requires that all work, for the duration of your employment, must be completed in the continental U.S. unless required by contract.
  • Must be able to work during eastern time unless approved by your manager.
