Candidates with an eye for detail that have experience processing payroll (UKG Ready experience preferred) for hourly and salaried employees. Candidates should also have experience reconciling general ledger accounts and performing detailed analysis of accounts. SUMMARY: The Payroll & Accounting Specialist is responsible for processing payroll, reviewing and performing payroll audits, serving as a point of contact for questions about payroll policies and procedures and finding ways to optimize the HRIS system to gain efficiencies and ensure accuracy. This position is also responsible for supporting the Accounting department in reconciling general ledger accounts and performing analysis of Travel accounting based on revenue accounting guidelines.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Payroll

  • Process and transmit bi-weekly payroll in an accurate, timely manner in accordance with established payroll processing calendars, company policies, and state and federal regulations
  • Communicate with employees and managers to obtain timesheet and time-off approvals and assist them with questions and issues related to timecard processing
  • Research employee payroll inquiries and respond to questions regarding pay policies/procedures
  • Focus on process improvement opportunities to deliver service excellence
  • Handle manual check requests and associated system updates, process garnishments, child support payments and other related requests
  • Audit time and labor data including weekly overtime reports, employee data record changes such as wage or position changes, new hire and terminations to ensure data accuracy
  • Review monthly insurance carrier billings for accuracy and work with HR to resolve discrepancies with carriers
  • Generate a variety of reports including but not limited to bi-weekly payroll reporting, monthly accounting reports, and annual ACA reporting
  • Reconcile the General Ledger with monthly payroll reports
  • Complete and respond to employment verification inquires

Accounting

  • Reconciles general ledger accounts and creates corresponding journal entries
  • Researches and analyzes travel commission recorded for application of revenue requirements. Identifies opportunities for process improvement within department.
  • Serves as primary back up for key functions in accounting department
  • Completes special projects as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma required
  • Associates degree in Accounting or Finance or American Payroll Association certificate preferred
  • 2 years of hands-on payroll processing experience
  • Minimum of 2 years accounting work experience with reconciliations
  • Thorough understanding of Federal and State payroll laws and regulations
  • Experience with UKG (UKG Ready) preferred
  • Intermediate or advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
