Director, People Partner

We are looking for a highly experienced Human Resources Business Partner (People Partner) to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Vice President, Head of People, the Director, People Partner, will play a pivotal role in aligning the people agenda and strategy with business objectives, driving organizational effectiveness, and fostering a culture of excellence.


This position requires a unique blend of skills, including strategic thinking, business acumen, coaching, and execution. This is a hybrid role, expected to be onsite in our office in Emeryville, CA, 2-3 times per week.



Responsibilities:
  • Be a trusted advisor and build a strong consultative relationship with business leaders to plan and execute People programs and initiatives, including organizational design, employee engagement, succession planning, talent calibrations, team effectiveness, leadership development, and more.
  • Provide input to the People strategy and roadmap and execute the implementation of talent management and engagement programs.
  • Own the relationship with senior leaders and people managers, supporting their business needs to achieve high performance, employee engagement, and top talent retention.
  • Act as a change leader, identifying opportunities, designing, and leading the change initiatives.
  • Support managers and employees by leveraging people programs, processes, and systems and educating them on policies and best practices.
  • Provide day-to-day performance guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions).
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations in a consistent, empathetic, and legally sound manner.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and development feedback to managers and individual contributors.
  • Partner and mentor members of the HR team.
  • Work closely with leaders and employees to improve work relationships, manage conflict, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Consult with line management and employees, providing HR guidance on a variety of topics, including policy interpretation and career development. 
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Identify learning and development needs across the organization and design programs to enhance skills and capabilities.
  • Provide compensation support, including salary planning, approval of salary actions, promotions, and job re-leveling.
  • Keep up-to-date knowledge of employment law requirements to ensure Amyris remains compliant.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or other related field.
  • 12+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with at least 3 years in a senior HRBP role.
  • Experience with implementing HR best practices, and giving direction based on federal and state employment laws, and regulations.
  • Proactive collaboration and experience impacting and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of driving organizational change and delivering results.
  • Experience communicating, both orally and written, at a high level.
  • Experience working in an ambiguous and ever-changing environment.
  • Experience in project management to include effective organizational skills, and business acumen, including strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and analysis, with great attention to detail a must.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree and/or PHR certification is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, highly entrepreneurial, creative, open-minded, persistent, collaborative, and passionate about and understanding Amyris' business.
  • Analytically driven; fluent with data-driven analysis.
  • Learning mindset.


Amyris is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.   


 The annual pay range for this role is $180,000 to $220,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
