PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX, and is a part of the PEMEX group which is a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics and marketing. PEMEX Deer Park provides a diverse and inclusive work environment that employs approximately 1000 employees with another 1200 contractors on site. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crudes to produce the high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. The PEMEX Deer Park site is co-located with other 3rd party chemical facilities allowing for further integration and optimization of the refinery and its products. The PEMEX Deer Park Refinery contains 16 Distributed Control Systems (DCS) with 4 Honeywell and 12 Emerson DCS’s that provide the basic process control systems for 35+ plants dispersed across five (5) Production Departments. Additionally, there are over 700 online analyzers installed across the refinery including Fire & Gas Detection, CEMS Environmental Compliance Analyzers, BTU Analyzers, Gas Chromatographs, Simulated Distillation Boiling Point GCs, Tunable Diode Laser (TDL) Analyzers, Raman Analyzers, Total Sulfur Analyzers, FTNIR Analyzers, Furnace Combustion Analyzers, Physical Property Analyzers, Air Demand Analyzers, pH, and Conductivity. The refinery typically has 15-20 active capital projects yearly that include analyzer scope.

The Analyzer Engineer / Senior Specialist is a key position in the Instrumentation and Process Control (I&PC) Department, deployed to support the refinery by ensuring the overall reliability of analyzer systems.

What is the role:

The Analyzer Engineer / Senior Specialist role is a highly collaborative and dynamic position and successful candidates must be able to work alone and as part of a team. You will interface with other members of the I&PC department (e.g., leadership, run and maintain support staff, application specialists), IT specialists, Process Engineering staff, Operations, Maintenance, Production staff, other discipline personnel, contract engineers, and vendor/manufacturer’s representatives to enable the 24X7 operation of the site.

In this role, you will utilize our Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) work process and expert analytical skills to improve the performance of our assets while providing strategic support to the Deer Park Maintenance organization for analyzer problems, including:

  • Identifying long-term and reoccurring (bad actor) analyzer problems and providing feasible pathways for resolutions.
  • Identifying obsolescence issues and providing possible solutions to mitigate (both short and long term).
  • Developing, mapping out and maintaining a 10-year strategy to enhance and maintain the reliability of obsolete, modern, and proposed analyzer project solutions to maximize business profitability.
  • Maintaining, in partnership with the Process Control Domain (PCD) team, the analyzer data communication architecture and network.
  • Maintaining analyzer related Quality System Plans (QSP) and work-processes.
