Ancillary Portfolio Specialist

POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for the Ancillary (Dental, vision, life, and disability) product portfolio implementations and key vendor operational support tasks associated with standalone and embedded ancillary products for both individual and group products.

NATURE AND SCOPE

  • This role does not manage people
  • This role reports to this job: MANAGER, ANCILLARY OPERATIONS
  • Necessary Contacts: In order to effectively fulfill this position, the incumbent must be in contact with:All departments and levels of management of BCBSLA: Legal, M&B, Benefit Administration, Actuarial, Medical Review, IT, Finance and Network Development. All areas of Marketing, Members, Group and Individual Producers, Captive Producers and BCBSLA Group Leaders, Senior Management, Underwriting, Legal, Membership and Billing, Benefits Administration, Actuarial, Medical Review, IT, Finance and Network and vendors. Third party vendor: Operational, IT, marketing, customer service and project management with our ancillary strategic partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field required
  • Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Work Experience

  • 3 years of Ancillary product (dental, vision, life, disability) operations or underwriting experience with two of those years in focused in ancillary or employees benefits products is required
  • Dental insurance experience is preferred
  • Experience can run concurrently.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to manage, analyze and generate the necessary reports/data to evaluate the performance of products lines and business segments using the various database systems and applications.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities. Must have the ability to analyze and develop database information, identify trends and correlations, and develop strategies to benefit from the information gained.
  • Requires research/technical skills and a high-level proficiency in database manipulation. MS Excel skills are required.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and project management skills required along with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills required.
  • Ability to travel approximately, including overnight stays, attending conferences/exhibits and/or visiting regional offices.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Life and Health Insurance license is preferred

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Business lead responsible for ancillary portfolio product (group and individual; embedded and standalone) with respect to compliance with vendor requirements, healthcare reform regulations and state mandates.
  • Facilitates the implementation of ancillary product modifications, new products, marketing tools, healthcare reform, product marketing, and related issues to the product portfolio to deliver high-quality products and services. Ensures all systems, forms, web-based tools (Access Blue), internal departments, marketing materials, effected existing membership base and our sales distribution have updated, accurate and in compliance with dental vendor requirements.
  • Ongoing project collaboration with cross functional teams at Blue Cross and with ancillary vendors for improved business solutions related to ancillary operations. As the ancillary industry changes with HCR, must ensure our business processes and products are compliant with internal and external operations. Must identify operational issues and solutions for improved quality of ancillary services offered by Blue Cross.
  • Responsible for daily coordination with Blue Cross and the dental strategic partners operations teams for Data Interface Oversight for such functions as enrollment, reporting and claims data. Coordinate with IT lead and for critical issue resolution.
