Role Summary

We are seeking a Payroll Manager. In this newly created role, you will be responsible for all aspects of payroll and retirement plan operations.  This is an exciting opportunity to lead the payroll function for a biotech company in rapid growth mode.  You will have day-to-day interaction with all employees and partner with Finance, the People team, and Legal.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Process payroll on a bi-weekly basis accurately and timely, calculating and deducting taxes and other withholdings, and ensuring appropriate pay for all employees
  • Maintain accurate records of all payroll transactions and reconcile payroll reports, ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including payroll tax filings and W-2s
  • Administer 401k retirement plans
  • Provide support to our Equity Administrator for various equity related items, such as initiating E-trade accounts, processing option exercises, RSU settlements, and ESPP matters
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and related matters
  • Responsible for monthly close process regarding payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations, and support audit procedures by providing records and documentation to auditors
  • Support compliance with SOX internal controls by working collaboratively with the Finance team and outsourced internal auditors, and owning the SOX controls around payroll
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures
  • Collaborate with Finance, Human Resources, and Legal on projects and implementations as needed

Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years of experience in payroll, preferably with multi-state experience in a growth company
  • College degree or equivalent preferred
  • Advanced excel skills with a keen focus on details and accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • You are a quick learner, and can adapt to the needs of a fast-paced and growing organization
  • You have excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple and/or changing priorities, and meet deadlines
  • You maintain the highest degree of integrity, professionalism and maintenance of confidentiality
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations and requirements
  • Prior working experience with ADP WorkforceNow or other payroll processing system
  • Prior working experience with Equity Edge Online and E-Trade is preferred
  • Ability to work across various US time zones

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% domestically, as needed 

The anticipated salary range for candidates for this role will be $125,000-$145,000/ year. The final salary offered will depend on several factors, which may include, but is not limited to relevant years of experience, educational background, and geography.
