Apparel Materials Developer
Milwaukee Tool is continuing to innovate on the jobsite by providing real solutions for professional users. As our Materials Developer you will lead the sourcing, development, testing and commercialization for all Jobsite Apparel categories. You will focus on defining performance material that will meet our user’s needs as well as own development process to ensure that all testing, timelines, costing meet product expectations. You will help us establish and grow our materials and trims library while developing strong relationships with our current mills and manufacturing partners.
This role will report to the Apparel Design Manager and will be part of a growing Jobsite Apparel Design team. In addition to the design team, you will work alongside of the larger development team, including the Product Manager, and Project Lead, as well as many other roles in the company.

You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
  • Manage the sourcing and development of seasonal fabric / trims.
  • Research and develop new fabric/trim concepts and technologies and propose ideas according to trend and business needs.
  • Maintaining existing core fabrics and create an innovation pipeline for white space future development.
  • Source new trims and fabrics from trade shows, supplier visits, market research and design briefing (present findings)
  • Own color development/ lab dips
  • Build and maintain accurate development data with complete material information of quality /pricing/ color/MOQs/lead-times
  • Own and maintain the physical color, trim, and material library.
  • Create and maintain fabric and trim testing standards and test plans.
  • Manage Supplier, 3rd party and in house lab testing.
  • Compile and report out on Test performance.
  • Data entry to support product information systems (PLM/ test data)
  • Adhere to the seasonal Design and Development calendar and ensure approvals, documentation and clear communications to all suppliers and partners.
  • Communicate with suppliers daily regarding lab dip requests, testing, strike offs and tracking to ensure the calendar deliverables are met
  • Manage raw material supplier relationships and set up meetings.
  • Organize materials for fabric deadlines (greige planning, booking, and ordering for prototypes, SMS and Bulk)
  • Organize material for prototypes and testing, general support in the entire fabric process (sourcing, vendor meetings, developments, marketing, etc.)
  • Identify potential issues in manufacturing and make recommendations to mitigate risk.
What TOOLS you'll bring with you:

  • A curiosity and drive to understand end-user’s needs and the ability to help solve those needs from a material perspective
  • 3-5 years’ experience in apparel or textile design
  • At least 3 years’ experience specifically in material and trim design and development
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Design, Textile Design, or equivalent school and work experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of all areas of textile development, including development of fibers, yarn, material construction, finishings and performance technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of industry testing standards
  • Experience in PLM software preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop collaborative relationships
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects/seasons at the same time
