Applications Developer

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Applications Developer in the Information Technology department, reporting to the Senior Manager of Application Development.

The role will reside in the Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for the development of software applications in support of the firm’s business needs. The Applications Developer is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors, and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Develop new applications by analyzing user requirements; envisioning system features and functionality throughout the life cycle of the application while maintaining consistency and uniformity with established standards.
• Integrate applications with enterprise systems and external vendors by analyzing 3rd party system integration points.
• Interface with business analysts, project managers, subject matter experts and business stakeholders to understand business processes.
• Contribute to team meetings; troubleshoot development and production issues across multiple environments and operating platforms.
• Provide enhancements and/or maintain existing applications developed by peer developers.
• Participate in code-reviews and provide constructive criticism to enhance code maintainability.
• Engineer and unit test new applications and application changes to confirm that they meet the firm’s technology standards and do not conflict with existing applications or services.
• Create and maintain documentation and release notes.
• Communicate status and key business information effectively to both management and internal customers.
• Serve as 3rd level help desk support for areas of technology assigned.
• Assist in providing analysis of off-the-shelf products as part of buy vs. build decisions.

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

• Bachelor’s degree required (Computer Science or equivalent preferred)
• A minimum of three years of experience in an application development role
• Prior experience in a law firm or other professional services firm preferred

• Developing, deploying, and hosting applications in Microsoft Azure utilizing PaaS and Containerized applications
• CI/CD strategies and tools using Azure DevOps or GitHub
• TypeScript
• Client-side testing frameworks such as Karma, Mocha, Chai, etc.
• API development against enterprise systems
• Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise in the following:
