PRIMARY PURPOSE:Provide support to the M&D Operator for successful delivery of refined, resinated, and dried wood fiber to the press. Along with M&D operator, owns the operation and cleanliness of M&D area.description of Essential duties:GENERAL:• Provides relief for M&D for breaks and shifts when deemed capable.• Assists M&D and Storage Operator as needed.• Responsible for setting up and unloading all additive trucks.• Assists Maintenance personnel and laborers as needed.• Pull fiber samples as needed to assure proper quality and report to M&D operator and lab tech. Coordinate with M&D appropriate steps to adjust refiners to optimize fiber quality, plate wear, and energy.• Perform scheduled safety checks on boiler in the operator’s absence and obtain a state boiler operator’s license.• Executes all duties listed in the M&D utility worksheet, including:• Ensuring water in floor containment areas is managed. Responsible for monitoring all pumps, hoses, and tank levels.• Ensuring refiners, bases, catwalks, hydraulic units, etc. will be cleaned as per defined schedules.PLATE REBUILDS:• Responsible for plate rebuilds following proper procedures.• Maintains Plate building area as defined in the M&D Utility Worksheet.• Competent in plate change procedures and participates in all plate changes.key expectations supporting organization structure & cross-training:• Required to provide coverage for M&D and Storage operator roles. As an expectation, the Utility will work on the training plans to become “capable” as a minimum expectation for these roles. Capable is defined as the ability to handle routine daily operational tasks. Utility operators are also expected to work towards “Competent” operating level. This is an elevated level of competency whereby the operator has more intimate understanding of the equipment to troubleshoot and problem -solve more complex issues. It is an expected level for M&D & Loader operators. Utility operators that achieve this level are in a better position to be capable of filling these roles when opportunities arise.• Ownership of your area includes communicating issues and following up on resolution.• Communication is a key to our success. Check email daily. You are required to wear a radio and respond to issues in your area when needed. Let Operations and peers know about changes made while you are on shift.• Expectation to add value to the business every day:• Appropriate management of breaks required, including avoidance of control rooms or other work stations when taking scheduled break.• Whenever assigned work is completed, the Utility Technician is expected to contact appropriate supervision and/or access the job backlog files for additional activities. Self-motivation to work on cross-training and more intimate understanding of operating role(s) is also included in this definition of opportunity work. Utilization of the formal training plan for direction on productive work is also included in this scope.• Participate in problem solving meetings and positively contribute to improving the process on a daily basis.key safety/housekeeping reponsibilities:• All employees are required to know and follow the Arauco Safety Philosophy and Environmental Policy.• Help develop SOP’s and JHA’s.• Be able to explain where the deluge controls are and what specific area is affected.• Know proper PPE requirements for all tasks in your area, and wear them when required.• In addition to specific housekeeping duties outlined in the M&D Utility Worksheet:• Report unusual noise, smell, or visual conditions• Follow all safety rules/regulations for the facility and as outlined in procedures• Report any unsafe condition• Report all accidents, and near miss incidents• Before operating any mobile equipment (lifts, loaders, sweepers, etc.), the machine should be serviced and inspected prior to use• The proper documentation will be filled out and submitted• Should the equipment be damaged, report condition to supervision and/or shift safety representative to prevent being held accountable for damage someone else committed• Issues safety related work requests• Specific Safety Training required for the role over and above general training for all employees includes:• Forklift operations• Loader operations• Boiler Operator License• Hoist Inspection training
