Software Engineer - Quantitative

Ark is developing an intelligent biomanufacturing platform so that more scientific breakthroughs reach commercialization. By integrating advanced modeling and simulation into bioprocessing, Ark short-circuits the lengthy and expensive development process (years and $100Ms). Ark’s platform includes an experiment co-pilot and digital twin for rapid process optimization and an intelligent bioreactor that drives productivity growth. Ark's platform will expedite the commercialization of biotechnological innovations that can improve human health, combat climate change, and enhance national security.


About the role

We are seeking a Quantitative Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will own the simulation engine powering Ark’s groundbreaking computational bioprocess platform. In simulation ownership, you will play a crucial role bringing innovations from our world-class modeling team into high-performing code that powers Ark's bioprocess copilot. This role is critical to ensuring that our advanced bioprocess models are both robust and efficient.


Note: the level and corresponding title for this position will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.


Key responsibilites
  • Own simulation engine powering Ark’s bioprocess copilot SaaS  platform.
  • Collaborate closely with world-class (PhD+) modeling scientists to design and productize mechanistic and ML models into optimized software implementations.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance high-performance code that drives our virtual bioreactor simulations.
  • Integrate complex bioprocess models into Ark’s bioprocess copilot, focusing on flexibility, scalability, and performance.
  • Build continuous testing and validation of software to ensure model accuracy and reliability in various bioprocess scenarios.
  • Act as a bridge between the modeling and software engineering teams, facilitating clear communication and effective collaboration.


About you
  • Strong numerical programming skills utilizing technologies such as numpy, scipy, or scikit learn
  • Experience with scientific computing and algorithm development; plus if have experience with simulation of dynamic systems
  • Proven experience in developing high-performance software, preferably in the context of scientific or engineering applications. Plus if have experience with compiled languages (C++, Rust) and/or JIT-compiled python (e.g., JAX, numba)
  • Fluent in python
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts between multidisciplinary teams
