Registered Nurse (On-Call)

JOB SUMMARY:

Perform clinical nursing duties which include nurse visits, providing direction to LVNs, MAs, and clinic volunteers and back-up nursing triage.  Assist in normal clinic operational functions including patient flow, Quality Assurance activities, nursing policies, and procedures, etc.  Work in collaboration with other staff to uphold clinic standards and improve patient care.


Please note: Asian Health Services is seeking registered nurses to assist with our mobile clinic van, which will provide COVID and flu vaccinations at various school sites in Oakland.


On-Call Position: The mobile vaccine clinic operates on varying dates, so this role is on-call. We will contact you based on your availability for coverage.


Nurse Visit (60%)
  • Handle a high volume of patients with face-to-face inquiries and walk-ins requesting care.
  • Perform nursing assessment, intervention, and planning by using the SOAP format.
  • Provide medical advice as needed for all lifecycles as appropriate.
  • Provide COVID and/or flu vaccination.


Other Clinical (20%)
  • Records medical histories using appropriate format; takes and records physiological measurements such as height and weight, temperature, and urinalysis; performs basic in-clinic laboratory tests, obtaining and processing specimens for outside laboratory analysis.
  • Performs basic nursing procedures such as injections, skin tests, phlebotomy, and dressing changes; performs or assists with tests such as electrocardiograms, spirometry, and audiometry; assists physicians during examinations as needed.
  • Performs additional clinic and non-triage nurse duties such as instructing patients in general and specific medical care and health issues, providing skilled nursing services and treatment, administering and/or dispensing medication and injections; performs nurse visits as required.


Administrative (10%)
  • Maintain, facilitate, and improve clinic operations and procedures with other clinic staff.
  • Participate in the recruitment, screening, orientation, and training of volunteers and new staff in the nursing area.
  • Participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures as requested, working in conjunction with the Nursing Coordinator.
  • Participate in staff development training and activities that advance professional and personal growth.
  • Assist in coordinating the work schedule of LVNs, MAs, and clinic volunteers.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S), one year of professional nursing experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred qualifications
  • Commitment to working in the low-income community and to community health care with familiarity with community health clinics is preferred. 


Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
  • California Registered Nurse license
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification


$55.60 - $58.67 an hour
On-call employees do not qualify for company benefits
