Asphalt Repair Worker

An Asphalt Repair Worker (Hand Grader) performs manual tasks involved in grading, surfacing, leveling, and smoothing school grounds. Some of the core duties include:

• Setting screeds along flow lines and ridges and around trees preparatory to the placing of asphaltic concrete.
• Preparing, shaping, and straightening subgrades by eye and lines in appropriate relationship to grade stakes.
• Shoveling, spreading, raking, leveling, and smoothing asphaltic concrete and decomposed granite.
• Breaking up, cutting, and drilling macadam and concrete with hand and pneumatic tools.
• Using a shovel, rake, and hand roller to grade and level surfaces
• Cleaning up and loading debris for disposal.
• Patching asphaltic concrete, using a butane torch and iron for sealing the surface.
• Storing materials, tools, and equipment, and keeping tools and equipment in serviceable condition.
• May operate a light truck and an air compressor.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.

Experience: One year of experience in asphalt paving and repair.
