The Univeristy of New Hampshire is seeking an Assistant Director of Admissions!
The Assistant Director of Admissions performs duties relevant to the recruitment, admission and counseling of transfer students, resulting in the achievement of enrollment goals established by the University. Position shares with all admissions officer positions common responsibilities: representing the university to all interested constituencies, reviewing admissions applications, managing recruitment and admissions programming.
Recruitment of new transfer students
- Meet, speak with and counsel prospective transfer students and other constituencies to explain pertinent transfer admissions policies and procedures; advise on credentials; answer questions on academic programs and campus life.
- Represent the university to community colleges, transfer advisors and professional transfer organizations
- Attend college nights, transfer and college fairs and other transfer recruitment events and programs.
- Conduct group information sessions that promote and explain the transfer admissions process and the university.
- Counsel applicants pre- or post-admission decision; perform essential and necessary duties to develop and maintain relationships with constituencies: program evaluation, email and written correspondence, telephone communication, social media, etc.
- Advise prospective transfer students on admission criteria, transfer credit, credit for prior learning and other critical decision factors for transfer students.
- Assists in developing appropriate partnerships which help develop feeder schools and organizations.
- Communicates with prospective transfer students via one-on-one appointments, telephone, email, SMS and chat platform.
- Makes strategic recommendations to improve transfer policies and procedures in order to enroll more transfer students.
- Maintains awareness of transfer credit policies at peer institutions.
- Seek to establish collaborations with on and off-campus organizations and offices that focus on the educational advancement of multi-cultural or under-represented transfer students.
- Lead special transfer- related projects and other duties
Review and evaluate transfer admission applications (domestic and/or international). Support freshman admission (as needed).
- Independently read, review, evaluate and process transfer applications for admission and rule on admittance within established guidelines (domestic and international).
- Provide expertise within the admissions office to support the review of transfer student applications.
- Participation in file review committees – TSAS, International, Athletes, etc.
- Collaborate with Registrar’s Office or Departments, as needed.
- Track progress and meet established application review deadlines and goals.
Specialized duties as assigned may include:
- Transfer communications coordination and strategy, including increased social media
- Assist with Oversight and planning of transfer recruitment travel/school visits and coordination with events team for on-campus and virtual events
- Assist with pre-athlete review of transfers
- Veteran’s Liaison
- Full-time Special Status
- Pre-admission liaison
- Pre-Health applicants review and coordination
- UNHM liaison for transfer recruitment
- Coordination with credit evaluation staff
- Oversees New England Regional Student Program (NERS)
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in educational counseling/administration or Master’s degree in counseling or related field and two years of experience in educational counseling/administration.
- Demonstrated commitment and experience working with diverse populations (race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status).
- Familiarity with college and university admissions policies and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Excellent personal computer skills required
- Excellent analytical ability
- Demonstrated appreciation for value and role of higher education
- Demonstrated ability to work with families, students, faculty and staff
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments
- Valid driver’s license
- Evening and weekend work required
