Overview


The Residency Team is composed of the Director of Participant Experience, the Assistant Director of Resident Experience, and the Assistant Director of Fellows and Alumni. As a cohesive unit, this team supports City Teaching Alliance's aspiring teachers throughout their first year of the program. From the time that Residents begin their graduate program and their summer residency until they are hired as First-Year Fellows, the Participant Engagement Team ensures that participants receive services, resources, and direct professional support that enables them to complete their Residency year successfully and step into their first Fellow Year as Teachers of Record with confidence.


Your Role

  • The Assistant Director of Resident Support is a proactive and collaborative member of the Dallas Site Team who will report to the Director of Participant Support and Engagement
  • The Assistant Director of Resident Support should be an outstanding listener that is focused on helping participants find solutions. An ideal candidate can balance empathizing while giving in the moment critical feedback.
  • The Assistant Director of Resident Support will have frequent contact with resident teachers, field supervisors (coaches), and other stakeholders to troubleshoot any issues that impact the resident’s ability to complete program requirements or impede the participants' ability to be an effective resident. This person will also create clear and open lines of communication from the site team to the residents.
  • The Assistant Director is responsible for meeting organizational goals in the areas of resident performance, wellness, and retention, as well as in school and district satisfaction.


Responsibilities


The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


Direct Resident Support


  • Work with coaches and residency team to troubleshoot clinically based resident and host teacher issues as needed
  • Collaborate with residency and leadership team to ensure that the proper supports are provided to residents so they remain in good program standing
  • Co-develop resident professional development scope and sequence with residency team
  • Lead participant roundtables as needed at the end of the Fall semester
  • Conduct informal school visits throughout Summer Institute and throughout the school year in order to evaluate the execution of our program with fidelity
  • Participate in Academic Review meetings as assigned at the end of each semester
  • Support Black Educators Initiative (BEI) by attending meetings as needed and securing partnerships to support residents in the program

Team Collaboration & Strategy


  • Serve as primary point of contact for coaches and faculty for any school or coursework-based concerns
  • Coordinate with the Data and Assessment Coordinator to collect data from the field in support of all credentialing needs for Residents
  • Attend staff meetings of various types based on context
  • Oversee and develop strategy for yearly resident hiring process to ensure that all residents are hired by start of fall semester as rising fellows
  • Work closely with the Director of Resident Experience to synthesize data and recommend programmatic improvements or changes

Communication


  • Work with Director of Clinical Faculty to develop communication plan in order to ensure that coaches and faculty are aware of programmatic policies and structures to support residents
  • Communicate proactively to ensure that school staff are fully aware and supportive of resident expectations; anticipate and address field-based issues.
  • Develop appropriate communications regarding program expectations, special initiatives, programmatic changes, etc. to the appropriate stakeholders throughout the year
  • Write host teacher monthly newsletters in order to address programmatic updates, resources for teachers, and professional development opportunities
  • Participate in speaking engagements and other opportunities to expand City Teaching Alliance's presence in the region

External Stakeholder Support


  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with school staff and other key stakeholders
  • Serve as primary point of contact for host teachers including, but not limited to: resident concerns, payment disbursement and concerns, host teacher onboarding, and host teacher communications
  • Meet regularly with school leaders and Director of School Partnerships to review resident and teacher performance and coordinate with Director of Resident Experience, Clinical Faculty, and REC, to identify appropriate supports/interventions

  • Collaborate with Director of Resident Experience to inform school leaders of residents with academic concerns as needed

Target Start Date: September 2023


Location:
Dallas office. Flexible/hybrid work available but must be physically based in the DFW region by start date. We do not provide relocation costs.


Compensation: $73,668-$79,642 & is subject to a geographic differential which could increase or decrease it by 4% or 8% depending on city of residence. We are an anti-racist organization that prioritizes equity so we do not negotiate salaries.

  • Dedication to urban education. You have 4+ years of previous experience working in schools as a teacher or instructional coach and are passionate about supporting educators and building strategy to do so.
