The Student Success Center partners with students as they transition to and through college. Using a holistic, individualized approach grounded in our Jesuit value of Cura Personalis, the Student Success Center coaches and connects students to resources and collaborates with campus partners to ensure every student has the tools to reach their goals.

The Assistant Director, Student Success Center position is aligned with important university and EMSS retention and persistence goals. The Assistant Director provides developmental, appreciative and intrusive coaching to their caseload of students and beyond. Through the understanding of persistence research and predictive modeling, the Assistant Director will proactively and strategically outreach to all students with the following goals:

  • Educate and support students to navigate the University and understand policies, procedures, and deadlines;
  • Monitor the progress and performance of students on caseload and deploy intervention based on differentiated care model. Assist students with setting goals and creating customized action plans,
  • Refer students on an individual basis to appropriate academic, career, health, social, financial and spiritual resources on campus.

Using a differentiated care model, the Assistant Director will coordinate outreach and strategically communicate with the students on their caseload. In addition to one-on-one success coaching sessions, the Assistant Director will offer group advising and workshops, sometimes during evening/weekend hours and possibly in alternate locations. Assistant Director is expected to apply current research to autonomously make strategic and data-driven decisions with regard to caseloads. Position will also independently collaborate with campus partners in support of the students in their caseload. Position may teach Goa, assist in the training of new faculty/staff advisors at Xavier, support faculty/staff in the use of EAB Navigate create and publish reports, use data to effectively inform decisions, aid in directing the student staff, serve on committees, and more.

The expectation is the Assistant Director will serve students face-to-face Monday to Friday, 8:30-5pm, as well as some evenings during high volume times.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree and two or more years of experience working in an education setting with students who are low-income or first generation college students. The Assistant Director should have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with unique populations of students, e.g., students of color, transfer students, students on probation/returning from dismissal, exploratory (undecided) majors.
