ASSISTANT PROGRAM MANAGER-R&D - BATTERY TESTING & RESEARCH

Who We Are:

The Electrified Powertrain section at SwRI conducts testing and applied research and development on battery, hybrid and fuel cell electric vehicles and their components. We work closely with our customers to provide data to support product design and development and evaluate new technologies to improve the safety, efficiency and performance of electrified powertrains. We serve passenger vehicle OEMs, heavy-duty vehicle OEMs, battery manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers, aerospace and defense customers in a rapidly growing and changing landscape.

Objectives of this Role:
  • Support applied R&D and testing teams complete large, multi-disciplinary and intricate projects regarding lithium-ion batteries and electric vehicles on budget and on time.
  • Assist management in implementing continuous improvements for test and research program quality, timeliness and cost.
  • Gain exposure to the forefront of technologies that will find their way into applications within the next 5 years across automotive, heavy-duty, aerospace and defense applications.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Operational and tactical project management, including tracking cost, scope and schedule and working to execute projects on budget and on time.
  • Report on project status, risks, concerns, highlights, etc. on a weekly to bi-weekly basis to management.
  • Identify areas for improvement in project execution with a goal of improving timeliness and cost.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree field.
  • 5+ years: Experience managing large (>1 million USD) programs that require multiple teams across an organization to work together to meet project timeline and budget.
  • 5+ years: Finance tracking of projects to report earned value, VAC, etc. via software like Microsoft Excel and the ability to summarize key information in a concise manner.
  • 5+ years: Scheduling of multiple resources (human, equipment and facilities) via software like Microsoft Project and the ability to work agilely to change project plan or resources subject to test outcomes.
  • 5+ years: Must have the ability to manage multiple programs at a given time.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
