Associate Director, Diagnostic Alzheimer’s Disease MSLs
Job Summary:
The Associate Director (AD), Diagnostic Alzheimer’s disease MSLs is responsible for the leadership, direction, and management of the Diagnostic (Dx) MSLs. This includes providing overall guidance and direction to the Dx MSLs to gain an understanding of the scientific landscape from KOLs/HCPs and communicate the information to key internal stakeholders across the AD diagnostic journey from confirmation to monitoring/management throughout the course of the disease. The Associate Director for Dx MSLs works closely with the Associate Directors for the therapeutic MSLs and the Sr. Director of medical affairs to provide intelligence for the diagnostic medical strategies, to implement strategic and tactical plans based on those strategies and to provide overall support of the diagnostic journey and clinical studies across the various diagnostic platforms in Alzheimer’s (PET/CSF/BBBM-blood based biomarkers). This role will be disease state only focusing on diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, monitoring, and management of the disease.
In addition to the above leadership responsibilities, the Dx AD will, be responsible for coaching and developing the Dx MSLs. These MSLs will directly report into the Dx AD and the Dx AD will be responsible for the execution of assigned MSL activities, expense report reviews and approvals, PTO approvals, field observations, MSL development and evaluations. The Dx AD, will be a team player, willing to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams including HEOR/RWE, marketing, sales, corporate advocacy, clinical development/operations, medical information, scientific communications, publications, global diagnostics team, external diagnostic companies, and other matrix colleagues across Alzheimer’s Disease and Brain Health (ADBH). The Dx AD will work closely with the medical trainer for MSL onboarding and continuous learning opportunities. The Dx AD, will be responsible for following Eisai compliant SOPs and policies and making sure the Dx MSLs are abiding by these policies along with providing performance reports for the Dx MSLs within their region. The Dx AD will work closely with the other medical affairs managers and will report into the Sr Director, Alzheimer’s MSLs.
The impact that the position will have to the organization include the following:
as representatives of Eisai, communicate key information about Eisai, the company and its hhc mission; value teamwork and the ability to support ongoing initiatives across Eisai’s ADBH teams; provide key scientific/clinical information about Alzheimer’s diagnostics & disease state; provide a conduit for communication between Eisai and the medical community regarding ideas for future research with Alzheimer’s diagnosis and monitoring; and provide corporate value through demonstrated leadership and participation in strategic thinking.
Essential Functions
  • Ensure operational excellence of the Dx MSL team, including corporate aligned objective/tactics, cross-functional medical support, interaction with opinion leaders/HCPs and facilitating clinical research to meet strategic development needs.
  • Provide leadership for the Dx MSL function by participating on cross functional teams leading to strategic planning and working collaboratively with Diagnostics, Commercial Operations including, Sales, Marketing and Medical & Scientific Affairs.
  • Develop individual talent within the Dx MSL team, including training, career evaluation, coaching, mentoring, performance management and talent review. Includes recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new Dx MSLs.
  • Manage Dx MSL activities related to presenting medical and scientific information and to external customers, including but not limited to, medical thought leaders, academic institutions and managed care.
  • Work with professionals at the national, regional, and local level, supporting the education of key healthcare professionals with current, fair-balanced medical, scientific information regarding Alzheimer’s diagnostics. Increase the awareness of diagnostic data/recommendations allowing healthcare professionals to make informed diagnostic and management decisions.
  • Maintain and demonstrate thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease state, diagnostic journey and implementation, study methodology, clinical information on the various diagnostic tests and their approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry, and to ensure compliance with Eisai policies & procedures and standard operating procedures.
  • Travel (up to approx. 50%), locally across the US when required and including international travel and occasionally on weekends/weeknights. Be willing to work in a hybrid working environment (virtual & live meetings).
Requirements
  • Advanced scientific terminal degree (PhD, PharmD, MD/DO)
  • Expertise in utilizing diagnostic tests for health care
  • A broad background in PET imaging, lumbar punctures for confirmatory diagnosis including blood based biomarker screening, preferred
  • 8+ years industry or related experience, with at least 2 yrs experience in clinical diagnostics.
  • Must have 3 years of experience within the industry overseeing a Medical Science Liaison team or related function.
  • Prior experience in neurology is preferred; dementia experience is strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills required
  • A team player who is strategic and excels in a matrix environment
  • Experience hiring, training, and successfully onboarding Dx MSLs
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work remotely and maintain morale of field-based personnel that report into you, as well as good interaction with office based Medical Affairs and scientific staff
  • Strong personal integrity and ethics
  • Should have a proven track record of exceeding expectations with qualitative and quantitative metrics and driving MSL performance
  • Successful collaboration with cross-functional colleagues, successfully leading in high profile situations
  • Strong broad-based scientific and diagnostic knowledge
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of the FDA, OIG, HIPPA, PhRMA, GCP and other international regulatory/ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry & clinical trial conduct, and to ensure compliance with these external as well as internal Eisai guidelines and standard operating procedures
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to interface effectively with a variety of technical platforms for the collection/development of field reports, slide content, strategy/review, and dissemination of medical information
  • Sound computer skills including applications for word processing, producing slide materials, working with spreadsheets, and other pharma platforms
  • Ability to safely and successfully operate a motor vehicle is required.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • This is a field-based position. The employee is required to set up a home-based office within their defined territory.

Eisai Salary Transparency Language:
The base salary range for the Associate Director, Diagnostic Alzheimer's Disease MSLs - Field Based is from :$176,600.00 - $264,800.00
Under current guidelines, this position is eligible to participate in : Eisai Inc. Annual Incentive Plan & Eisai Inc. Long Term Incentive Plan.
