Associate Director, Medical Digital Strategy and Innovation

The Associate Director, Medical Digital Strategy and Innovation will be responsible for the direction and management of digital strategy, effectiveness and innovation initiatives supporting US Medical Affairs and Research & Development. The Director will drive growth and innovation through digital transformation, development of new products and execution of tactics through broad scientific expertise and strategic leadership, championing new approaches to identify and resolve complex and critical Medical Affairs challenges and opportunities. This individual will collaborate with US and Global and Medical Affairs colleagues and key cross-functional teams including Information Technology, Research and Development, Global Value & Access, and Marketing to develop and drive the adoption and implementation of both internal and external facing digital initiatives with a lens to the future establishing an ecosystem for value-based innovation.

Essential Functions

  • Assess innovative digital tools and platforms informed by analytics and big data, (e.g., AI, new data generation resources, etc.) to build a technology capability stack to inform and connect with both internal and external stakeholders improving outcomes and interactions. Drive digital initiatives ensuring successful evaluation, execution, and optimization. Identify innovative ways to inform healthcare awareness, adoption, and utilization of digital initiatives. Develop, lead, and execute innovative digital strategies and studies to advance value-based decision-making and improve system efficiency and quality, for internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate closely with the Global and Regional teams to develop an internal and external facing US medical affairs digital strategy.

This includes collaboration with clinical development and other internal stakeholders to enhance the use of advanced data analytics.

  • Collaborate with tech companies to leverage their core expertise in digital science. Investigate innovative digital opportunities that support appropriate healthcare professionals use of Eisai products and investigational programs. Lead strategic discussions with partners and alliances to identify and analyze emerging technologies, trends and opportunities for their potential to disrupt existing capabilities, digital and transformation strategies; stay in touch with an ever changing technological environment and serve as the lead to explore and understand the type and extent of new growth opportunities. This includes the following:
    • Link and analyze big data via machine learning platforms to inform internal strategic decisions
    • Create robust medical insight-generation processes, collection, and analysis to support current and future internal strategies. Collaborate with Global and Regional teams to identify and leverage insights gained from digital analytics to understand and inform the decisions of individual HCPs
    • Improved ability to quantify and analyze insights informing strategy and research.
  • Collaborate with field medical team to determine communication channels for field medical to deliver Thought Leader content digitally and to provide virtual reality and adaptive training for field medical teams. This includes the following:
    • Provide field medical with digital platforms to support pre-call planning through thought leader (TL) / digital opinion leader (DOL) mapping, KOL/DOL profiling, virtual engagement and advisory boards
    • Develop more personalization capabilities to understand and deliver tailored engagement to physicians and patients across their entire journey, tailoring interactions to the specific HCP
    • Create additional digital sources of medical education for HCPs such as portals for scientific education and AE management. Create more opportunities for thought leaders (TL) to engage via online interactive education sessions
    • Establish new key performance indicators (KPIs) and design thinking with tracking and reporting at the global level
  • Develop more personalization capabilities to understand and deliver tailored engagement to physician and patients across their entire journey, tailoring interactions specifically to the specific HCP.
  • Determine medical impact at individual provider level, including use of test-and learn dynamics to understand the most helpful activities, while modes of engagement are also continuously refined at the level of the individual physician.
  • Ensure operational excellence through evaluation, management and oversight of new value added digital initiatives within budget and adhering to digital governance, legal, compliance and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific terminal degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant scientific experience and a minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Knowledge and experience of current & future Eisai areas of therapeutic interest (preferred)
  • Digital innovation experience and past success bringing new disruptive technologies to the forefront while driving a digital innovation agenda
  • Analytical mindset and data oriented with the ability to distill complex topics in a timely, effective manner.
  • Candidate should have a high degree of creativity in developing new approaches, processes and methodologies that meet the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills with a strong scientific background and pharmaceutical knowledge and experience with Medical Affairs systems
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with an independent work ethic and the ability to work with a diverse set of stakeholders to meet objectives and inform strategy including all levels of management
  • Team player who is willing to teach and bring others along the journey while partnering with cross functional partners including digital vendors
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, self-prioritize, think critically, analyze situations, and adapt to change to achieve goals
  • Attention to detail, committed follow-through, and project management are essential attributes for this role
  • Thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical corporate environment and experience partnering with cross functional teams across R&D and commercial functions
  • Ability to travel as needed to conferences and internal meetings up to 50% of the time
