Going greener is top of mind, so we've partnered with Terracycle to recycle the unrecyclable and began producing only PCR plastic bottles in 2022. amika is a Climate Neutral Certified organization, Leaping Bunny Certified and Certified Vegan.
Founded in Brooklyn, we're a collective of creatives, hair stylists, chemists and product enthusiasts. We create the style, products and packaging; take our own photographs and make our own films.

the job:
amika is seeking an Associate Director of Editorial and Copy. This is a newly created role that requires the ability to be both a strategic and creative storyteller as well as a "doer" in order to create compelling copy + narratives that build a strong emotional connection with the amika customer and reinforce brand equity. They will partner closely with the SVP Marketing and Creative Director to serve as a guardian of the amika brand and be responsible for continuing to refine and develop our brand voice, tone, and messaging to ensure consistency across all consumer touchpoints and assets.
this role will manage one direct report and work cross-functionally to deliver clear and differentiated copy and messaging needs across channels including but not limited to: Product Marketing, Brand Marketing, Digital Marketing, Paid Media, Organic Social, Trade Marketing, Customer Service, and internal-facing communications.
the ideal candidate must have a strong sense of branding and product marketing, with a deep understanding of how to bring stories to life across channels. This person thrives in culture, is passionate about beauty, and has a sixth sense for what's next. Importantly, they understand people: what inspires and motivates the amika customer; how to persuade and influence internal senior stakeholders; how to coach junior team members; and how to effectively collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams to bring the brand to life.
Location: hybrid in-office/work from home schedule, with 3-4 mandatory trips per year to HQ in Brooklyn, NY (paid by company)
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000 + benefits
what you'll do:
- Serve as a guardian of the amika brand voice by maintaining strong collaborative relationships with Creative, Brand Management, Consumer Engagement, Ecommerce, and International Marketing teams to drive sharp, ownable, and consistent copy across all touchpoints.
- Manage one direct report, providing consistent coaching and thoughtful feedback, while helping execute brand voice in day-to-day execution and across campaigns. Constantly anticipate business needs to ensure copy deliverables are delivered within timelines.
- In close partnership with product marketing team, oversee development of compelling global product copy including packaging, naming, concepts, benefit claims and usage.
- Participate in brainstorming exchange, creative team ideation, and internal creative presentations in order to help bring new launches and campaigns to life with compelling storytelling and clear messaging. Partner closely with creative team on any video storyboard execution to reinforce messaging priority and product portrayal.
- Oversee development of taglines and robust messaging guides to support global GTM toolkits and integrated activation strategies. Ensure all external-facing customer messaging is executed cohesively - and injected with the amika personality- across all digital and retail environments including paid, owned, e-commerce, and visual merchandising.
- Support development of internal and external customer service communications as needed in close partnership with regulatory, product development, education, and marketing teams.
- Work with consumer engagement team to pitch and execute on editorial calendar in line with broader marketing + product calendar support strategy.
- Help support owned content strategy + storytelling with social team for implementation of big-picture messaging to drive brand equity, engagement and loyalty. Guide and support owned social/content calendar messaging.
- Oversee copy development for all global retail channels inclusive of loveamika.com and visual merchandising. Ensure consistency of execution across international markets.
- Serve as primary liaison with regulatory team to ensure that all brand copy + messaging is legally approved. Maintain legally approved copy documents.
- Liaise closely with any external vendor and agency relationships to ensure a consistent tone of voice and messaging across all content.
must-haves:
- 6-8 years experience in beauty – as a copywriter, editorial and/or brand storyteller
- Extensive understanding of beauty/fashion/lifestyle space. Strong knowledge of hair category ideal, but not required.
- Relevant experience developing copy for a variety of marketing channels including in-store visual merchandising, ecommerce, paid/organic social, and internal communications
- Rich experience in helping concept campaigns, writing brand taglines, and compelling product copy.
- Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements in the beauty industry today
- Understanding of digital + social best practices, including current industry trends
- Collaborative, communicative, and super organized team player who can juggle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment at once- you can balance long term strategic projects with daily fire drills, while motivating and influencing cross-functional teams without direct responsibility.
- Experience working in smaller, entrepreneurial environments + scaling processes for growth
- Must possess a strong sense of image, attention to detail
- Strict adherence to grammar and style guides
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- 3-4 years managing other copywriters
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship
