Astronomer designed Astro, an industry-leading data orchestration and observability platform for data teams. Powered by Airflow, Astro accelerates building reliable data products that unlock insights, unleash AI value, and drive data-driven applications.

We’re a globally-distributed and rapidly growing venture-backed team of learners, innovators and collaborators. Our mission is to empower data teams to bring mission-critical analytics, AI, and software to life.  As a member of our team, you will be at the forefront of the industry as we strive to deliver the world's data.

Your background may be unconventional; as long as you have the essential qualifications, we encourage you to apply. While having "bonus" qualifications makes for a strong candidate, Astronomer values diverse experiences. Many of us at Astronomer haven't followed traditional career paths, and we welcome it if yours hasn't either.

About this role:

Astronomer is looking for a senior developer advocate to join our Developer Relations team. We want data professionals everywhere to love using Airflow and Astro, so we’re investing in technical content, community building, and knowledge sharing to help lower barriers to entry, support the ever-growing Airflow user base, and expand awareness of our products.

As a Senior Developer Advocate, you’ll help us evangelize Airflow and Astro best practices through a combination of data engineering, speaking engagements, customer events, and the development of technical content. In this role, you’ll help design and implement developer advocacy projects and work across teams in a rapidly growing organization.

What you get to do:

  • Be a great advocate for OSS Airflow users and Astronomer customers – put yourself in the shoes of an end user and turn your technical experience into resources that grow adoption of our platform.

  • Host public workshops, webinars, and other educational content

  • Lead technical enablement events with Astronomer customers, designed to increase usage of our platform.

  • Attend and speak at conferences, meetups, and other local data events to learn from and contribute to the greater community

  • Help lead technical content initiatives by scoping, planning, and creating content on Airflow and Astronomer integrations, new feature releases, and more.

  • Serve as a “day 0” customer for new Airflow and Astronomer features and integrations, actively providing engineering and product feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Gain deep familiarity with the other products in our ecosystem, from both a competitive and symbiotic perspective.

  • Collaborate heavily with really talented (but down-to-earth) and fun teammates.

What you bring to the role:

  • You have 4-6 years experience in a developer advocate or related role.

  • You’re passionate about data and have a working knowledge of modern data tools.

  • You have a strong technical background and experience coding in Python.

  • You’re passionate about teaching and sharing knowledge.

  • You’re a great communicator — you love writing and public speaking, and can clearly express your ideas through a variety of channels.

  • You’re adaptable – you adjust well to shifting priorities and can adapt your communication style to different target audiences.

  • You’re deeply empathetic and a great listener.

  • You’re able to travel within the US up to several times per month.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Familiarity with Apache Airflow.

  • Interest or passion for open source projects and communities.
