We are looking for an enthusiastic Mid-Level Backend Engineer to join our growing Engineering team. You will work within the Backend team to help solve problems through coding. Your primary focus will be the enhancement and evolution of the primary APIs that serve the App and website, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests.

There are three sides to our business. Here’s how we serve each:

• Sports fans: FANZO makes watching sport socially quicker and easier to organise. We’ll help you find the perfect venue for you and your friends.
• Pubs: FANZO is an organisational tool for venues that show sport on TV. Our service helps them save time each week promoting sport and drives fans in to watch games they’re showing. Customers include Greene King, Punch Taverns, Fullers, Marstons and Youngs.
• Brands: We work with brands to help them reach fans during live sport. We have well-established partnerships with Guinness, Heineken, Carlsberg and Budweiser with more brands using the platform in 2021 including Vodafone and O2.

What's the Role

As a backend engineer at FANZO your role will be to help advance our product offering across all three sides of our business - sports fans, venues and brands. You will work closely with the Senior Backend Engineers and other engineers to develop and deliver high quality software that is performant, well tested and scalable.

You will proactively seek new opportunities for learning and growth, both within our codebase and for your wider skills and you will work with Senior Engineers, sometimes in pair programming to help you advance your problem solving and solution finding.

You may take ownership of certain code areas and be a fast learning, high performing, self serving, growth focused engineer. You'll be given the opportunity and resources to expand your knowledge and grow your skills both within your chosen language and others if you desire.

Requirements

• Knowledge of Object Oriented PHP and of any MVC PHP Framework.
• Knowledge of MySQL.
• Are comfortable with Git and GitHub.
• Good problem solving and logic abilities

Bonus points

• Experience working with Laravel, Symfony or Phalcon.
• Experience working with PHPUnit or other testing frameworks like Codeception
• Experience with integration of external Services/RESTful APIs

Where will you work?

FANZO has a flexible approach to work, balancing your freedom to work where you are most effective with the value of coming together and working on specific initiatives face to face. We have an office near Old Street, in London. While you may be expected to work from the office 3-6 days a month (depending on company meeting schedules and company priorities), the space is available for you to work from if you desire.

Who you will work with?

Overall, FANZO is made up of very passionate people split across 4 countries. The team is currently 35 people and growing fast.

You will report into the Head of Software Development and join a small but friendly team. You will also work regularly with other teams (players across different territories, finance, and ops).

Salary

£40,000 - £55,000 - depending on experience.
