BAE Systems is seeking a Senior Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Specialist. In this position, you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at our Sterling Heights, Michigan site.
As an experienced Senior Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Specialist, you will:
- Implement and maintain programs for SHE protection and compliance to local, state, & federal regulations, inspection, and oversight of best management practices;
- Participate in emergency planning activities, integrating SHE programs in a manufacturing environment, and training of employees and subcontractors;
- Develop and implement programs to ensure that regulatory obligations are fulfilled in a cost-effective manner and that SHE risks are effectively managed;
- Prepare related reports and studies for submission to regulatory agencies;
- Assist with hazardous material and waste management, groundwater remediation, waste water reporting, and environmental sustainability;
- Other duties and job responsibilities as assigned.
Note: This position will report onsite on a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off!
Required Education, Experience, & Skills :
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Safety, or a related discipline, and four (4) years of related experience;
- Knowledgeable in SHE regulations and compliance;
- Able to evaluate industrial processes and develop solutions;
- A collaborative team player with the ability to take initiative individually;
- An effective communicator, written and verbal, able to share complex information;
- Experience facilitating meetings and working groups;
- Ability to coach and consult with line management, at all levels, relative to building a culture and processes that lead to excellent SHE performance;
- Exceptional organizational skills;
- Basic knowledge of SHE Management Systems (ISO 45001/ISO 14001 requirements);
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office;
- Ability to support on site in Sterling Heights, Michigan, on a 9/80 schedule.
Preferred background, however not required includes:
- Previous experience with hazardous waste management;
- Project Management skills;
- Familiarity with audit processes;
- Four (4)+ years of Safety/Health and/or Environmental Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, regulatory or consulting company with increasing responsibilities;
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certificate in Hazardous Material Management (CHMM), and/or Certified in Industrial Hygiene (CIH);
- Experience identifying and mitigating risk management.

Pay: $99,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
