Job Description
The main missions are:
Analyze the need for Contract of Affreightment (COA) or Time Charter (TC), spontaneously or following proposals from traders or spot charterers, and lead the negotiations with barge companies.
Monitor spot charters in the technical part, contractual part usage of General Chartering Conditions (GCCs), economical part (benchmarks).
In case of TC, ensure good utilization of the barge by coordinating between Trading Operations desks, ensure the administration of hire and possible allocation of related costs amongst books is correct.
Enter concluded voyages into the internal system Medissys, including coherence of Vetting requests for charters and coordinate any needed updating and/or amendments.
Liaise and visit barge companies used by T&S in order to monitor the technical/contractual aspects and to minimize risk (safety, quality & quantity) during loading and discharging operations, promote TotalEnergies’ safety standards.
Stay up to date on latest Company HSE developments and international legislation/guidelines/regulations linked with barging in order to bring accurate information and full technical support to trading operators and traders.
Provide support to the Crisis Management team when necessary.
Analyze Barge Chartering Economics (constructions/scrapping/trends/forecasts) liaising with brokers, consultants, the Shipping Economics Cell, the ECO Market Analysis team, and other Company entities involved (Refinery & Chemical branch, Retail Branch, Vetting, etc).
Ensure monthly statistical data on barge charters, barge vetting and barge movements for internal use (management and charterers), and for presentation to third parties.
Propose, collect, and implement initiatives to improve safety & economics on barging operations.
Monitor how the competition is organized in terms of barge chartering, and selection of service providers.
Ensure usage of latest GCC’s in T&S charters.
Context and environment
The Barge Chartering team works closely with Products & Crude Traders and Trading Operations for the Barge chartering activity. The position requires being mind-flexible and quick in bringing the advice and technical support as the decision taken by trading operators and traders needs to be taken promptly.
Working in a fast-paced trading environment requires the jobholder to be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. The position requires daily interaction with other departments within the organization as well as with external providers.
This position requires some travel as maybe required (domestically and overseas).
Activity is around 10 to 15 active TC; Around 500 voyages per year spot and TC, located mainly in Texas and Louisiana states.
Candidate profile
Are you someone with the following:
Undergraduate degree with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the barge industry with a minimum of 3 years in a commercial role required.
Outstanding organizational skills with rigor and high attention to detail allowing you to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at once with limited guidance and a result driven approach.
Analytical Skills required with a good command of Power BI preferred.
Excellent negotiation skills, showing initiative and, commercially minded.
Excellent communication skills oral and written.
Working in our teams requires ownership, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to learn new skills quickly in a fast-paced and exciting work environment.
