Basketball Referee/Coach/Scorekeeper

Description:
  • Officiate youth basketball games from Kindergarten to 12th grade boys and girls at competitive sporting events. Identify infractions of rules and make calls on the court. Work to keep crowd and game under control so everyone has a good time. This is AAU level basketball.
  • Officiate at basketball tournament to maintain standards of play and to ensure that game rules are observed.
  • Uses appropriate signals and mechanics.
  • Communicate any problems or concerns to the director/supervisor.
  • Signal participants or other officials to make them aware of infractions or to otherwise regulate play or competition.
  • Inspect sporting equipment and/or examine participants in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
  • Keep track of event times, including elapsed time during game segments, starting or stopping play when necessary.
  • Resolve claims of rule infractions or complaints by participants and assess any necessary penalties, according to rules.
  • Verify scoring calculations before competition winners are announced.

Requirements:
  • Experience with basketball required.
  • Referee experience strongly preferred.
  • We provide training and certification for those without experience
Qualifications for Basketball Coach:
  • Must be able to move quickly.
  • Must Have a positive attitude.
  • Someone who wants to learn to think quick on their feet.
This coaching experience is completely different from what you’ve ever seen before. You will ONLY be coaching during a tournament. No team practices! Just coaching.

Qualifications for Basketball Referee:
  • Must be able to move quickly.
  • Must be able to travel up and down the basketball court as game takes place.

SCOREKEEPERS:
Act as an official Basketball Scorekeeper for basketball tournaments. The official scorekeeper is a neutral party and a table official whose role is imperative to good game administration and fair play.
  • Tournaments take place on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Shifts can be half day or full day.
  • Location: Various gyms throughout area.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for official score book and/or time clock at league games.
  • Work cooperatively with staff partners: at the score table and with Tournament Director.
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with parents, players staff, referees and general public.
  • Assist in enforcing tournament rules and facility guidelines.
  • Check team rosters in accordance with player eligibility requirements.
  • Assist in opening and closing of facility including cleaning, sweeping and set-up/take-down of equipment such as tables, chairs, bleachers and benches.
