Battery Engineer - Cathode Materials

This position is based in the US and required to be in compliance with ITAR regulations.

Battery Engineer - Cathode Materials

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to help design, synthesize, characterize, and test high-performance cathode materials for next generation Lithium-Sulfur batteries. This is a hands-on position that combines material science and battery engineering. The ideal candidate has a strong background in material science or a related field, is excited about expanding their skillset, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Synthesize new cathode materials based on Lyten's 3D Graphene platform
  • Collect and analyze material characterization data, including Raman, XRD, SEM, FTIR, and TGA
  • Design and execute DOEs to optimize synthetic reaction conditions
  • In collaboration with the cell team, build and test coin and pouch cells in order to understand the impact of material properties on cell performance
  • Prepare weekly summaries of work carried out including key learnings and proposed next step
  • Maintain an accurate and organized lab notebook
  • Maintain 5S: clean, safe, and organized shared laboratory environment

Qualifications

  • S./B.A. in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; M.S. preferred
  • 2+ years of industry experience in a materials-related field; Li-ion or other battery experience preferred but not necessary
  • Experience in one or more of: wet chemistry, powder processing, thin films and/or coatings
  • Experience with material characterization techniques such as Raman, XRD, SEM, FTIR, TGA, UV-Vis; experience with electrochemical techniques a plus
  • Experience with statistical data analysis software (e.g., JMP, Python, R, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent critical analysis and reasoning skills
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously
