Expanded Learning Program Instructor (Life Academy Middle School)

We are seeking committed and passionate expanded learning instructors to change the future of students by leading academic, physical, and enrichment activities as part of our Life Academy expanded learning program. As an instructor, you will lead and mentor up to 25 youth in an expanded learning setting. Minimum Requirements

• No experience required
• Must have an (a) Associate Degree or higher, or (b) 48 or more college units, or (c) High School Diploma or GED and pass Instructional Aide exam
• Must pass criminal background check and TB test clearance

• Ability to reliably commute to Oakland, CA

• Commitment to education equity and leadership

• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
• Start date is as soon as possible
• End date is May 27, 2025

Preferred:

• Be available on-site Mon/Wed/Fri from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm
• Ability to redirect and review expectations and rules with large groups of students with various development levels
• Previous experience coaching at the middle school or youth level
• Foster a positive and inclusive sports culture that prioritizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and individual growth, creating an environment where every student can have fun.
• Punctuality, responsibility, and professionalism are a priority.

• Ability to practice open, clear, and consistent communication and commitment to participate in professional development.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain the emotional well-being of the students.

• Provide a safe environment

• Be a positive role model for struggling students

• Have fun engaging students in lesson plans that support school day learning

• Run community circles based on restorative practices

• Ability to collaborate with youth to support their learning and development (youth-driven curriculum)
