We are on a journey to help the next million creators, publishers, and companies scale and monetize their audiences. beehiiv is already home to thousands of the most popular newsletters in the world, and we're only 18 months old! We hit $1M ARR in January of 2023, and just surpassed $5M ARR in September 📈.

We're looking for our first risk and compliance engineer to help us keep bad actors off the platform and maintain our high email deliverability levels and low levels of payment fraud. Specifically, you'll be working on building scalable systems for us to detect and mitigate spammers, list-buyers, and fraudulent advertisers and publishers.

Ideally you will have:

• Experience combating email related bad actors like spamming and phishing attacks
• Understanding of the email deliverability ecosystem
• Experience working on a small and autonomous compliance, risk, or safety team 
• Experience dealing with payments fraud and minimizing dispute flows 
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Experience working with an agile development team
• 4+ years of relevant work experience

Nice to have:

• Experience with Ruby on rails, react, and typescript. As long as you have experience with a dynamic backend language or are willing to learn, this is less important than experience fighting fraud. 
• Experience using Heroku, Sentry, Github
• Familiarity with email-specific topics, such as HTML email templating, cross-device management, SMTP, email deliverability, integrating with ESPs, inbox providers, etc.
• Keen design eye and a passion for building great user experiences
• Experience working on small, highly productive engineering teams 
• Experience optimizing high throughput postgres databases
• Experience with Redis, Sidekiq, and Remix.js 

Key Responsibilities

Creating and improving processes and systems for combating bad actors:

• Using our platform to send out spam and phishing emails
• Abusing our paid recommendation system 'boosts' and driving fake leads 
• Preventing automated signups, both as publishers on the platform and subscribers to newsletters
• Developing heuristics and patterns to identify high risk or suspicious users
