The Team The vision for the foundation’s US education work is to ensure that all students in the US have access to educational opportunities, from Pre-K to postsecondary, that enable them to develop the knowledge... skills, and agency needed thrive as adults and contribute to their communities. Within K-12 education, the foundation focuses on math and – given the opportunity gaps – specifically focuses on increasing the number of Black and Latino students and students from low-income backgrounds (“priority students”) who are prepared for and complete Algebra 1 by the 9th grade, so they can be ready and able to progress through higher level math in high school and beyond. The foundation aims to improve math education in this country by increasing the quality of instructional materials so that they are more motivating and engaging for students – particularly priority students – and ensuring that teachers have high-quality supports to use those materials well. Our investments reach nationally, but we also focus within four states: California, Florida, New York, and Texas given the large populations of priority students in those states. This position is a limited-term position for 9 months. Relocation will not be provided. Your Role The Senior Program Officer, K-12 Strategy & Learning (9-month LTE) will be a member of the K-12 Education team, whose goal is to increase the number of Black and Latino students and students from low-income backgrounds who are prepared for and complete Algebra 1 by the 9th grade, so they can be ready and able to progress through higher level math in high school and beyond. Specifically, this role will support the K-12 strategy and learning efforts on specific time-bound initiatives related to measurement of investment and strategy progress; learning routines to use evidence to improve investments and strategies over time; and reporting procedures to take that evidence and synthesize information for leadership and other audiences. This role’s work on the time-bound initiatives will advance work on the team and supplement team capacity while a team member is on leave. The person in this role will apply their experience and expertise in measurement, progress assessment and monitoring, evaluation, and learning and reporting routines to evolve the K-12 Education team’s work in these areas to build strong plans for future use and support implementation where possible within the 9-month contract. This role is expected to adhere to equitable evaluation principles and, where possible, deepen the team’s alignment to equitable approaches. This role is expected to coordinate closely with other members of the K-12 Education team, especially those working on strategy, measurement, learning, and evaluation efforts. What You'll Do Respond to leadership requests for reviews of evidence or evidence informed positions on policy questions in written memos and decks. Work across the Strategy and Learning verticals and with strategy officers to craft and implement strategy-wide learning routines that make appropriate use of relevant evidence to advance equity goals Develop and maintain a K-12 common evidence base including analyzing, synthesizing, and reporting findings from funded and other research to inform the foundation’s strategy evaluation, planning, and development internally In partnership with others on the Strategy and Learning verticals, design and lead capacity building efforts (e.g., tools, trainings, workshops) to develop team and partner capacity to appropriately use of evidence to advance equity goals Offer planning, project management, and execution support on key strategy, measurement, learning, and evaluation initiatives As needed, contribute additional capacity around measurement, learning, and evaluation consultation capacity; grantee support related to measurement, learning, and evaluation needs; and strategic synthesis and analysis Contribute to the team’s alignment to equitable evaluation principles and deepening of the team’s expertise and practices against these principles Your Experience Experience developing and implementing measurement, learning, and evaluation plans Experience evaluating and making recommendations on research and data collection approaches Experience connecting learning needs to use of data, both qualitative and quantitative Proven ability to effectively project manages multiple parallel streams of work Proven track record to prioritize work and take initiative with little direction Demonstrated ability to clearly synthesize and communicate complex, imperfect data to advise strategic decision-making Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written Proven ability to lead and influence others in a constructive manner and to build and sustain collaborative relationships Exhibited commitment to and ability around inclusive design and equity-centered approaches to strategy, measurement, learning, and evaluation Curious, continuous learner mentality that can build on the strengths and ideas of others to innovate and improve impact M.A. in field related to measurement, learning, and evaluation or commensurate experience 7+ years of experience working on supporting organizational measurement, learning, and evaluation efforts Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship. The salary range for this role is $166,300 to $249,500 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $181,200 to $271,800 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint.
