Pros
Lots of room for growth (Outside of manufacturing for the most part). Lots of different career types (IT, Legal, Medical, Sales, Field Support, etc.)Cons
Manufacturing people have it rough, lots of hours and repetitive work for them. Culturally and geographically diverse company can be difficult for people to get along sometimes.bioMérieux is first and foremost a human and scientific adventure that began more than 50 years ago. Its expertise and its commitment to expand the frontiers of knowledge in biology are grounded in an entrepreneurial adventure that has been ongoing for more than one century.
In 1987, Marcel Mérieux, who had studied with Louis Pasteur, founded a laboratory in Lyon where he developed the first anti-tetanus sera. He called it Institute Mérieux, and from the outset began to lay the groundwork for a bio-industrial edifice that would leave its mark on vaccinology and the diagnosis of infectious diseases worldwide.
bioMérieux, created in 1963 by Alain Mérieux, employs over 10,000 team members worldwide. We operate in more than 160 countries through 43 subsidiaries and a large network of distributors, earning 90% of sales outside France.
Since 2014, Alexandre Mérieux, the great grandson of Marcel, has taken over the management of this family-owned company as the CEO. In December 2017, he was appointed Chairman and CEO.

"My name is Dennis (D.J.) Pegram and I am the U.S. Customer Service Manager for the Instrument Support team. I have been with bioMérieux for 6 years now and have been very thankful for the opportunities that this great organization has afforded me. I joined bioMérieux straight from the military and for those of us that have served you know that the military work environment is very close and your fellow service members are an extended family. Preparing for my transition, my hopes were to find an organization that offered a similar environment and believed in developing each employee to their fullest potential. Much to my amazement I was able to find that in this company.
This organization believes in fostering this type of environment so much so that it is hard coded in our core values, Employees are our greatest asset, and that says it all. I joined this company as a front line Associate System Engineer and as opportunities became available I jumped at every chance that came my way. Because we believe in developing our employees, we are focused on implementing strong succession plans, and because I had a solid management team that recognized the potential in me, I was able to advance to a Team Lead position and then manager, all within my first 4 years in the company. My hopes are that for those of you that are truly motivated and committed to ensuring that this organization is successful that you too will take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. If you do, I am confident at that this team and organization will commit to developing you into the leader you can be."
- Dennis Pegram, Customer Service Manager - Instrument Support
"I am in my first year as an Associate Manager on the Vitek 2 Reagent Manufacturing team at bioMérieux. Our team produces the Vitek 2 bacterial identification (ID) cards that are used for rapid microbial identification, and the antibiotic susceptibility (AST) cards that test for the microbes’ susceptibility to various antibiotics. Our team takes great pride in knowing that with every card we produce, there is a good chance that a life will be saved. I have experienced this feeling for 5 years now as part of the bioMérieux team. It has kept me engaged in my work and has made my time both enjoyable and fulfilling. I have gained a wealth of valuable experience, having been promoted 3 times in 5 years, I have performed multiple roles and have faced a variety of challenges within the manufacturing team on both the managerial and technical level. This comes from a significant effort from the company towards the development of its own employees. This effort has rewarded me with the opportunity to grow as a professional, as a leader and as a person. I feel very fortunate for these opportunities, and I am excited to invest my future in a strong, growing company, that was willing to invest in my future as well."
- Jason Kearns, Reagent Manufacturing, Associate Manager, Card Production

As a Medical Technologist/Microbiologist it fits my area of expertise and my personal wish to make a difference. In addition, bioMérieux provides the opportunity to work and interact with a variety of talented people across the globe, a big attraction for me. Finally, I am always humbled by the level of philanthropy this company/family engages in for public health and like to think I can impact that as well."

"Hello, my name is Emilie Collins and I am a Financial Analyst supporting the Sales and Marketing teams at bioMérieux here in the United States. I have been employed with the company for two years and look forward to many more years to come. I find that bioMérieux is a company whose employees are great individuals to work with. The local culture is energetic … and if you take the time to think about it … even motivating. When I reflect upon the employees I interact with from day to day, a laundry list of great traits come to mind. I know coworkers that are environmental activists, team mates that participate in non-degree earning graduate level classes, and managers that regularly run marathons. I even received my first baby present ever from an extremely thoughtful office friend. Really the point is that our employees are a pleasure to be around.
There is a uniquely faultless balance between results driven behaviors and social support within the office. The team here genuinely cares about each other and so we celebrate birthdays, holidays, catch up on each other’s weekends, etc. However, we also know there is a job (or countless jobs) to get done. There is an undercurrent of sensibility and corporate responsibility always evident in the air. One might even say that there is a semi submerged hint of competitiveness and strive to succeed present among the entire workforce. It’s not overwhelming though … actually it’s reassuring."
- Emilie Collins, Financial Analyst
"I am Ray Kowalskey and have been with bioMérieux since 2000. I have had numerous opportunities to work in all production areas of the St. Louis site from Instruments to Reagent Manufacturing. Each job has helped me grow in knowledge, skills and understanding.
I have found this to be the best company to work for during my career. The challenges, the sense of pride, team work and the opportunities make it a great place to be. I find the culture and environment of continuous improvement to be very motivating and all the teams working together to make that happen have been great. The best part of the job is knowing how our product helps the end user and what it does to help people during times of illness."
- Ray Kowalskey, Instruments and Reagent Manufacturing
"Every day there is a new challenge which make that work is not a routine.
bioMérieux is for me a nice company to work for several reasons. The first one is the size: it’s not a huge multinational and neither a small company; that means we have the budgets to implement some really interesting and challenging projects as SAP implementation, MES implementation… that small companies don’t have; and we have a good leeway and responsibilities we won’t have in a big company. Secondly, the medical industry is really interesting due to the regulation aspects we have to follow and therefore, always some good challenges! Thirdly, for my part, being in a global department (IS), we have lot of possibilities of travelling and meeting others cultures which is always interesting."
- Albert Revel, SAP Business Solution Analyst – MFG / QM / PM
