You can think of BioRender as the “Figma or Canva for scientists,” with a suite of web-based graphics communication products that empower scientists to create beautiful scientific visuals and presentations with ease.
As an Engineering Manager leading Search and Discovery, you will help accelerate our ability to return billions of hours to scientists by empowering them with the most relevant content in the most highly trafficked part of our application: the core illustrator. We want to help scientists find the science they're looking for in their own language, and build a 'visual auto complete' that can personalize and anticipate what scientific content would be most relevant to a scientist using our product. You will lead the strategic direction for how we can make BioRender as revolutionary as the breakthroughs communicated using our product.
What you'll do at BioRender:
People: Lead, nurture and grow a high-performing team to deliver an incredible amount of user value
Product: Collaborate with product and design to deeply understand the user, the product problem space, and how engineering can accelerate product advancements
Execution / Delivery: Lead your team to deliver search and personalization systems to empower users to instantly find the content they are looking for. We are looking for an engineering leader who'll be comfortable doing anything from working with the platform team to set up new python services, to working with data engineering to enable a new data streams, to working with legal to work through privacy issues
Technical depth: Facilitate great technical decision-making across a broad technical stack, having passion for the technical aspects of your work, but a desire to let engineers drive the details
What we Value:
Have experience managing a cross functional engineering team with embedded ML engineers that developed impactful solutions of machine learning & NLP problems at scale to production applications, i.e, search (keyword and semantic), embeddings, reranking, recommendation, personalization
Successful track record managing a high performing product engineering team of 5-8 engineers and consistently delivering value to users (2+ years of management experience)
Previous experience delivering large-scale, reliable systems that require a lot of cross functional collaboration
A technical background that gives you the ability to relate to the team's problems, facilitate discussion, and guide/coach engineers when making tradeoffs and technical decisions. (7+ years of software engineering experience)
