Job Description

Brightspeed has an exciting opportunity for an IP Network Operations Engineer to join our growing team! As an engineer of IP Network Operations, you will be part of a team supporting the Brightspeed IP, Metro and Management networks.  Part of a team in the network operations centers (NOCs) providing surveillance and maintenance capability for the IP functional areas of our large telecommunications network. This role requires extensive experience and a high degree of technical and process competencies while providing support to Brightspeed network services. This position assumes ownership and accountability in managing network issues and provides support, and assistance across different segments.  Principle work includes fault management, ticketing, and event management, supporting root cause resolution and working with engineering and test teams to support new product development.  In addition, you will be required to develop a strong background and understanding of telecommunications NOC support systems and processes. You will work with your peers and strategic vendor partners to foster an environment of continuous improvement.  

As IP Network Operations Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues
  • Successfully implement network and device maintenance requests
  • Provide high-level technical & engineering feedback for network performance management configurations, troubleshooting, and service restoration along with an understanding of switching, and routing as it would affect performance management
  • Work with network vendor providers troubleshooting and administering network devices
  • Monitor and analyze performance across networks and underlying automation deployments
  • Develop and oversee technical methods, procedures, and assist with complex solution design feedback 
  • Develop & document process flows
  • Contribute to advancing current knowledge base for network device troubleshooting, design, and support documentation
  • Identify capacity and performance issues for network traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of systems 
  • Provide ideas and improvements for automated systems towards improving network operations efficiencies
  • Properly document network issue resolution and identification through operational ticketing systems 
  • Maintain network monitoring applications, equipment and utilities as needed
  • Act as liaison between customer facing teams, network operations centers, vendor support teams, and peer networks as needed 

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper, and Nokia platforms 
  • Layers 2 & 3 switch and router configuration and management.  
  • Advanced understanding of internet routing protocols and concepts: TCP/IP, BGP, MPLS, ISIS and/or OSPF. 
  • Experience with isolation of telecom and/or network outage causes and service restorations  
  • Advanced customer service, organizational interaction, and teamwork skills 
  • Proficient and proven knowledge base in DNS, Speed test, Cache servers, scripting applications related to network architecture and support 
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment 
  • Strong communication (oral and written), customer service, organizational and multi-tasking skills
