Pennoni is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join our team on a full-time, direct basis while based out of our Hampton Roads office (in Virginia Beach, VA); we are willing to consider alternative locations for the right candidate!
This person is expected to develop current and future opportunities within the Virginia and North Carolina marketplace (as well as other potential markets and disciplines appropriate to our company and its geographic locations); this involves assisting with the development of technical proposals and presentations, as well as promoting consistent and efficient delivery of quality professional services for our clients. This person will also be expected to identify and evaluate potential new service offerings and project delivery methods, especially those driven by technological changes in the industry!
Primary Responsibilities:
- Contribute to company revenue growth by proactively working within select geographical markets (in VA & NC); this involves developing new project opportunities to win new business from clients in all relevant markets.
- Research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action.
- Identify and evaluate potential new service offerings through discussions with existing & potential clients.
- Continually develop and maintain relationships & partnerships (both internal and external).
- Assist with the development of proposals and presentations for prospective clients & projects.
- Provide constructive feedback regularly to assist colleagues with project management efforts; this involves providing relevant information on the market and required services.
- Work closely with the Corporate Business Development, Marketing, & Communications teams to develop annual plans as well as tools & materials required for successful efforts.
- Track and attend local industry events (including community events and marketing opportunities).
- Update the CRM on a weekly basis to show all leads, opportunities, and client contacts.
- Conform to / abide by all relevant regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, management, and clients while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor.
- Travel extensively to meet with clients and pursue business opportunities.
- Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in Civil Engineering or a related technical field of study)!
- At least 5 years of professional experience working in Business Development (preferably with Engineering and/or Construction-oriented services).
This person will be expected to travel as part of this role, so they will be required to possess a Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree (MBA and/or a Master's degree in a technical field of study is preferred).
- Proven track record of developing strong business relationships and winning new business opportunities from both new and existing clients, especially with engineering solutions in the A/E/C industry!
- Proven record of providing excellent customer service (for internal and external clients).
- Proficiency with basic computer systems and software, especially Microsoft Office 365 applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with CRM tools (especially Deltek Vantagepoint) is a plus!
- Proven ability to work independently or in a team environment while demonstrating strong character and dependability; a track record of collaborating with internal team members at all levels and leading by example is strongly preferred!
- Excellent organizational skills, especially with a proven ability to work in an energetic and challenging work environment on a variety of projects; this person will be expected to demonstrate a “can-do” self-motivated demeanor while effectively multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple assignments in order to achieve annual revenue goals in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate excellent business aptitude & analytical skills as well as a forward-looking approach to manage strategic and tactical initiatives in an effective manner.
- Excellent attention-to-detail; this person is expected to be thorough with their efforts!
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal); this person is expected to represent our company in a professional manner (e.g.: professional appearance, clear communication, etc.) and make presentations on our behalf.
