Description
The Business Development Strategist will support developing and implementing new business strategies and engage in marketing activities for engineering and construction consulting services. As part of the organizational structure and philosophy, the Business Development Strategist will assist in developing new clients and penetrating existing markets through assessing marketing opportunities and target markets to support sales and marketing initiatives.
- Coordinate business development activities in assigned geographic/industry territory following overall corporate business strategy.
- Support efforts to develop sales strategies, establish sales goals, and build relationships with existing and new external clients.
- Support efforts to increase customer awareness of the capabilities within Burns & McDonnell Engineering by continually contacting new clients and maintaining existing client relations.
- Assist with managing client-focused strategies and action plans that respond to client challenges and issues and create a competitive advantage for the firm to obtain the work successfully.
- Support business development teams in key opening and middle game activities, including conducting market research, analyzing clients and competitors, and collaborating to develop value propositions and pre-Request For Proposal (RFP) collateral.
- Support identification of trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements; tracking individual contributors and accomplishments.
- Screen potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities; recommending equity investments.
- Support development of negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners' needs and goals.
- Support closing new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts, and integrating contract requirements with business operations.
- Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential.
- Participate in educational opportunities, read professional publications, maintain personal networks, and participate in professional organizations.
- Support enhancing the organization's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Assist in identifying new, non-traditional, and compelling solutions to a customer's stated project scope of work to differentiate Burns & McDonnell.
- Research trade shows for potential attendance and participation through speaking, presentations, client events, and arranging a booth. Recruit presenters and make presentations at the tradeshow. Become an active member of relevant industry associations.
- Support identifying synergies internal to the Burns & McDonnell organization in other Global Practices and Regional Offices. Develop relationships to leverage one another's skills, abilities, and client contacts to further the marketing efforts in the Global Practice. Understand and communicate ongoing sales/marketing initiatives with other BMcD organizations.
- Coordinate and communicate regularly with other Business Development Leads and Project Managers. Collect real-time marketing data from the internal team and lead internal team marketing meetings.
- Support identifying potential clients and building relationships at the highest possible corporate level.
- Assist with the annual marketing and sales planning process.
- Commit to personal sales and marketing goals and develop a plan to achieve goals.
- Work with the manager to identify sales development opportunities, including goals for face-to-face meetings, opportunities created in CRM, team presentations, RFPs received, and others as determined in conjunction with the manager.
- All other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction, marketing or related degree from an accredited program with 3 years related experience; Associate’s degree plus 5 years related experience; or 7 years related experience. Bachelor’s degree in an environmental-related field highly preferred.
- Sales experience in the environmental consulting industry preferred.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to clearly and effectively present information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Must have knowledge in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to effectively organize, manage multiple tasks and work independently.
- Ability to clearly and concisely express information orally and in writing.
- Ability to use logical thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and oral instructions.
- Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and technology.
- Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
- Ability to travel 25-50%
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e. without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
Compensation Range
$95,000 - $130,000
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
