SUMMARY: This position is accountable for the safety and security of campus as well as patrol operations and performing investigative duties. This is a night shift position. Two 12 hour shifts per week, 7pm- 7am.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Perform patrol duties by patrolling the campus on foot or car; and performing safety and security checks to ensure safety and security of staff, students and buildings.
Enforce policies and regulations of the University.
Establish and maintain the investigation process by responding to incidents, generating reports, distributing report information to appropriate persons, visiting incident scenes, gathering all pertinent data, and keeping track of campus events to ensure timely and effective investigations.
Provide security for special events by conducting parking details and providing building security to ensure necessary safety of outside performers.
Assist in maintaining the University’s compliance with campus regulations such as Clery and Annual Fire Safety.
Cooperate with local police departments and safety teams of nearby institutions in promoting a safe environment on and around the campus area.
Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
This position requires an Associate’s degree (A.A) from a two-year college or technical school; one to three years experience (in the field of criminal justice); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
1. Understanding of security and safety related matters.
2. Training and experience in police and/or security work preferred.
3. Training in basic first aid and emergency medical procedures preferred.
4. Crisis intervention skills are necessary.
5. Training and experience using defensive tactics is preferred.
6. Understanding of incident command and emergency management.
7. Training and experience with firearms is necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS include
1. Walking and standing.
2. Driving an automobile on public roads and highways are critical.
3. Lifting and carrying of objects weighing 5-20 lbs. or more.
4. Climbing ladders, scaffolding and the like are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Michigan preferred.

Possess a valid Michigan Concealed Pistols license with an exemption from pistol free zones (classrooms, residence halls, churches or entertainment facility seating more than 2500 people)
Special Instructions to Applicants: Campus Safety officer positions REQUIRE the ability to work twelve-hour shifts including weekends and holidays. You will be REQUIRED to work an assigned shift rotation with two 12 hour shifts per week and must be available on the days assigned. You will be REQUIRED to attend quarterly firearms training and other annual training as assigned.
