Our flagship campus is in Sydney, with additional spaces in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. You have the flexibility to work from the office, home, or a mix of both—it’s your choice.

What you’d be doing in this role

As a Staff Data Scientist in the Analytics Prototyping and Development (APD) team, you'll drive innovation by tackling complex, uncharted projects that have significant business impact. Your work will involve developing solutions that push boundaries, supporting MarTech and Marketing Data initiatives, and addressing challenges that require both technical expertise and creative problem-solving.

Your Key Responsibilities

  1. Blue Ocean Projects:
    • Lead the development of analytics and data science tooling, collaborating with data scientists and teams like the MarTech Product Group to deliver new capabilities for creative execution.
    • Solve scope, technical and business challenges that arise in experimental, first-of-its-kind projects.
  2. MarTech Thought Leadership:
    • Provide expertise in MarTech vendor management and technical system design.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and present tradeoffs in system designs, ensuring alignment with non-technical stakeholders.
    • Quickly create and present technical documents and proposals to groups ranging from 30 to 60 attendees.
  3. Signals and Measurement:
    • Drive overarching signals work with marketing partners to improve advertising effectiveness.
    • Advocate for ownership of signals by the right data teams, ensuring these critical assets are managed effectively and aligned with business needs.
  4. Legal and Compliance Expertise:
    • Support vendor security and legal assessments.
    • Apply knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, Australian Privacy Principles, and other privacy regulations to ensure compliance.
    • Collaborate with internal legal teams to align on data governance and privacy standards.
  5. Collaborative Problem Solving:
    • Partner with engineering, marketing, and external vendors to address challenges and drive solutions that align with Canva’s business goals.

  • You bring a strong technical background, with expertise in SQL and at least Python or R.
