Summary

The Career Connector will advance the mission of the Kuhlin Hub by prospecting, engaging, and building relationships with industry professionals who are aligned with the University’s strategic objectives, programs and initiatives.

This position requires a significant level of self-motivation, goal-orientation, attention to detail, and commitment to identifying, establishing and sustaining professional relationships with economic development agencies, entrepreneurs, corporate recruiters, and alumni who are industry professionals. Responsibilities will emphasize research, qualification, utilization of customer relationship management tools, and networking.

Essential Functions

External Relations

  • Actively manage and engage a portfolio of companies/organizations targeted to a specific field. Advance relationships with company connections through heightening their engagement on campus with students, faculty, and staff.
  • In consultation with supervisor and AVP/ED for Kuhlin Hub create an annual personalized work plan for accomplishing specific goals and objectives that align with Kuhlin Hub priorities.
  • Actively participate in Career Design and Connections activities and meetings including, but not limited to, academic unit meetings, strategic planning sessions, prospect management meetings, and team collaboration meetings.
  • Coordinate prospect strategies and share call information with other members of Kuhlin Hub team through personal communication and electronic contact reports.
  • Liaise to assigned college/unit/program(s). Establish professional relationships with deans, unit heads and faculty, and include them in company engagement strategies, as appropriate. Develop and implement a comprehensive short and long-term company/organization portfolio plan for assigned college/unit/program to further the initiatives of assigned area(s).
  • Meet annual visit goals through personal travel/interaction, virtual meetings, or substantive phone calls.

Internal Relations

  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the University, its programs, and strategic priorities. Actively participate in campus life, including attendance at key events such as Homecoming, athletic competitions, student performances, gift announcements, and groundbreakings and dedications. Host industry professionals at events that advance organizational relationships.

Data and Process

  • Record pertinent contacts (visits, emails, phone calls) with prospects and partners in customer relationship management database, timely and in accordance with divisional policies and procedures.
  • Record and maintain accurate open proposals in University Advancement’s database, timely and in accordance with divisional policies and procedures.
  • Follow all established processes and policies as established by University leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and AVP/ED for Kuhlin Hub.

Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:


  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree must be conferred at the time of application.

The following Experience is required:
  • 3 years of professional experience

The following Experience is preferred:
  • Experience in sales or university recruiting
  • Experience in higher education, career development or similar

  • Ability to promote the university’s priorities and programs by developing professional and strategic relationships with alumni, company representatives, and other friends of the university.
  • Ability to engage active listening skills and problem-solving mentality to help create a win-win for the company/individual and the university.
  • Ability to think entrepreneurially and strategically regarding the identification and qualification of new potential companies/organizations for the university to partner with.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and positively with university and divisional leadership and with other colleagues and campus partners.
  • Ability to work within complex data management systems and to maintain timely and appropriate contact reports
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to operate with decorum and professionalism.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn industry best practice, NACE guidelines, and BGSU-specific policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Ability to review and interpret data as it relates to the role.
  • Ability to work responsibly within a set budget.
  • Willingness to employ all manner of appropriate communication to secure visits with prospective companies. This role will require some amount of local, regional, and national travel, with supervisor approval.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook required; experience working in CRM databases
