Chemical Operator 12hr Rotating Shift, Newark NJ

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Learn the operations and cleaning of all Natural Chemical equipment, that is, reactors, distillation and autoclave using DeltaV controls.
• Learn the start-up, monitoring and shutdown of Natural Chemical utilities, that is, cooling towers, chillers, vacuum pumps, air compressor, scrubbers, de-ionized water and clean steam.
• Learn to monitor chemical processes by performing general lab analyses using GC, bio-analyser, titration, HPLC, pH meter and microscope.
• Complete production batch records.
• Learn to maintain good housekeeping per GMP’s by keeping production areas clean.
• Perform other duties as required.
• 12hr rotating shift

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a chemical-processing environment.
• Demonstrated compliance in safety, environmental and GMP practices as it relates to a chemical plant environment.
• Reliable attendance record for efficient personnel scheduling and shift-relief planning.
• Demonstrate capability to learn the additional qualifications needed for Chemical Operator position.

Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Aptitude for mechanical work.
Certificate & Licenses: Forklift Operator’s Certification required or is able to be forklift certified after attending on-site Forklift Training program.
Environment: Moderate to high noise level, outside and inside work, high/low temperatures, high humidity, strong malodorous materials, level 1 microorganisms, chemicals and solvent fumes. Exposure to soybeans (a food allergen).

Normal working hours comprise of 12-hr or 8-hr rotating shifts, 5-7-days per week with occasional overtime. Trainee is teamed up with a more experienced operator, senior/lead operator, or area supervisor for a minimum of four months.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use general dexterity, handle, feel, reach, stoop, kneel, climb ladder, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Requires wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as, FR uniform, gloves, safety glasses, face shield, steel toe footwear, earplugs, hardhat/bumb cap and other PPE as required.
