Chief Medical Officer

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will serve as a key member of the company's leadership team. They will be responsible for driving the company's overall clinical strategy and serving as the medical voice and subject matter expert in product development, as well as the external face of the company in leading interactions across various constituencies, including physicians, investors, and employers. This individual will lead the company's clinical activities and interface directly with the FDA to advance Cognoa's software medical devices.

This is a Hybrid Position

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the Clinical Research function and the Medical Affairs function which includes Patient Advocacy, and Clinical Adoption.
  • Develop and implement innovative, science-based communication strategies for all Cognoa products.
  • Collaborate closely with the market access/strategic partnership team, as well as the sales/marketing team to identify key issues, customer insights, and sources of incremental business to inform future decisions.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise through review of scientific literature, observation of medical/clinical practice trends, and participation in industry meetings. Serve as resource and expert for management team, commercial organization and other internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure the highest quality and integrity across all aspects of clinical / medical information and communications; including but not limited to content for customer education, medical information requests and promotional review.

Strengthen engagement with the medical community through various channels, including advisory boards, user meetings, CME programs, academic collaborations and professional societies. Build and maintain key opinion leader relationships consistent with commercial and development objectives.

  • Oversee the design and execution of clinical trials to support evidence generation for regulatory clearance, health economic outcomes, and other real-world use of Cognoa's devices.
  • Advance the development of the Cognoa pipeline working closely with product, data science, and engineering teams.
  • Establish the systems, processes and procedures to ensure safety and performance of marketed products.
  • Work with the commercial team (sales and marketing) to design internal / external training programs and support the delivery of those training events as requested.
  • Collaborate with management to evaluate growth opportunities based on unmet clinical needs, emerging technology, and competitive landscape.
  • Support and enhance talent pipeline by helping recruit, developing and rewarding high-performing employees.
  • Direct annual budget for department and associated clinical and medical programs.

Qualifications:

  • M.D. with board certification in one of the following: developmental and behavioral pediatrics, neurology, or psychiatry.
  • Experienced provider of clinical services to those with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating children with developmental disorders, including Autism, within world class medical institutions.
  • Excellent knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, ICH guidelines, and operational aspects of clinical trials.
  • Ideally, this individual will have experience in data science and/or utilizing novel technologies in order to improve the practice of medicine, the treatment of patients, or the management of clinical trials to improve outcomes. Flexible and adaptable style with a willingness and eagerness to take on challenges;

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Preferred Experience:

  • Have documented success in advancing programs through clinical trials, ideally partnering with industry, and driving regulatory strategy, including interfacing with the FDA and global health authorities.
  • Ideally have experience or at least a strong desire to work within the context of a small, entrepreneurial company and hence, bring to the table flexibility, and a willingness to be hands-on and take on responsibilities outside of their comfort zone.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally
