The grocery industry is in a state of flux. Consumers are embracing technologies, devices, and services that make everyday tasks like shopping, cooking, and list-making quicker, easier, more fun, and more efficient. Mercatus empowers grocers to adopt this change driven by consumer demand, allowing them to grow with the evolving needs of today’s shoppers. We create and build web and mobile applications exclusively for grocery retailers, helping them to extend their brand’s online presence, offer personalized experiences to their customers, and sell their products on the web. This is all done through one cohesive, enterprise-grade SaaS platform.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead the operations of a technology company that is quickly scaling. In this role you will directly manage the Client Experience function of Mercatus (Solutions, Delivery, Support) while also leading operational effectiveness across the Senior Leadership Team and larger organization. You will have the chance to implement strong processes and procedures that enable the company, and individual team members, to grow and succeed. This role will be remote.

What You'll Do

  • Enable the CEO to transition away from the day-to-day activities and focus exclusively on operational areas where he can provide maximum value (product, partnerships, evangelism, financing)
  • Work with team members to define, track, and report monthly, quarterly and annual objectives and metrics in an organized and digestible way
  • Operationalize the leadership team, both the executive and their reports to maximum effectiveness within the cultural guidelines
  • Build and foster relationships that accelerate the cultural mandate of the company and drive leadership to new heights of capability
  • Build a world-class client experience team with strong leaders in all areas of technology that inspire through engagement and have deep empathy and care for their team's well-being and success
  • Provide leadership and direct management of the company's operations, including analyzing, developing, and implementing operational processes and controls as needed and identifying areas of improvement
  • Build strong performance measurement and metrics management to promote accountability and a results-oriented culture
  • Develop operational strategy and push execution; continuously working to scale processes and systems to drive rapid growth; leveraging technology when possible
  • Champion the development, refinement, documentation, and communication of Mercatus' processes and procedures, ensuring enforceable policies with clearly identified accountability
  • Constructively critique, refine and improve the strategic direction of the company in collaboration with other leaders of the organization to ensure initiatives and capabilities match strategic goals
  • Lead special projects Multi-team, complex projects that require a lot of planning and on-the-ground execution
  • Develop, analyze, and interpret key organizational data and metrics, and make recommendations based on them
  • Creating a dashboard to support effective business operations and board transparency/communication
  • Collaborating with the client experience team to further develop and implement operating processes to streamline operations.
  • Cultivate a pipeline of diverse and high-quality talent
  • Coach and mentor team members for personal growth and performance
  • Use stakeholders' feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments
  • Stay on top of operational trends and provide the company direction on best practices
  • Communicate operation strategy to partners and investors

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience and a Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years in a COO or equivalent position in a technology company
  • You have deep, senior-level operational leadership experience, preferably within an eCommerce SaaS organization in the venture/growth stage, including experience implementing software solutions.
  • You have successfully led a comparable organization through a period of significant growth and transformation in scaling its operations and in achieving improved efficiencies, processes, and outcomes across a range of key operating metrics.
  • You are organized and process driven, a polished and agile leader while also being a proven collaborator and relationship builder, sticking to your convictions in a non-abrasive manner to coax (massage), not force change.
  • Progressive leadership, strategic and operational planning experience ideally within a health-tech organization
  • A track record of providing direct and constructive feedback and helping employees develop their skills and careers
  • Strong problem-solving skills as well as the ability to manage several tasks and projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and performance/operations metrics
  • Solid financial foundation with an understanding of financial statements, business case development, and pricing structures
  • Excellent leadership skills and a proven ability to manage, lead and supervise a talented multidisciplinary team; can delegate effectively
  • Has successfully built, developed, mentored, and managed multi-functional groups/teams
  • Multiple examples of success in building and scaling both the technology organization and system solution architecture (across both application and infrastructure) for a global web-based SaaS application
  • Experience in digitally transforming operational processes and the client experience is considered an asset
  • Proven strategic thinker with strong business acumen and an eye for efficiency and judicious use of resources
  • Excellent communicator with strong client-facing presentation skills
  • Experience evaluating, selecting, and managing 3rd party technology vendors
  • Experience managing senior executive expectations, developing evolving roadmaps, and building business perspective through a technology lens
  • A consensus builder and team player with a proven track record of trust and transparency - open to input, ideas, and feedback from clients, peers, subordinates, and other members of the organization
  • Ability to motivate teams and inspire confidence
  • Experience with challenging status quo
