Under the supervision of the Community Engagement Manager, the Outreach Coordinator will assist in investigating Public Works and city code violations related to, but not limited to, illegal dumping, sidewalk cleanliness, trash service, and sanitation standards. The Outreach Coordinator also participates in department community engagement activities by providing direct outreach to the... neighborhood community groups and merchants. In general, the Outreach Coordinator will support the Operations Division (comprised of the Bureau of Street & Environmental Services, Urban Forestry, Building Repair, Street & Sewer Repair, and Central Operations) in responding to department-related inquiries from the public. Candidates must be interested in educating residents, merchants, community partners, policymakers, and members of the public about SF Public Works Policy, Public Works Code, Community Projects, and Programs. The position requires a candidate who is both passionate about enhancing the cleanliness in San Francisco, especially along the public right of way, activating public spaces, and interested in contributing to broad-reaching community improvement projects that will have long-term effects on San Francisco public spaces.
The Outreach Coordinator will work in an energetic, fast-paced environment, working closely and collaboratively alongside laborers, tradespersons, Operations managers, and other staff.
Nature of Work
The nature of the work requires sustained physical effort involving considerable standing, bending, and exposure to working conditions where moderately serious injuries may occur; occasional exposure to loose garbage and abandoned debris, and disagreeable weather conditions. Positions may periodically require being on-call, working on weekends, evenings, and/or early mornings. Driving SFPW motor vehicles, using cellular devices, two-way radios, tablets, and computers is required.
Major, Important and Essential Duties
• As part of our outreach efforts, you will build working relationships with the community by attending neighborhood, merchant, and Community Benefit meetings.
• Attend all Public Works events including Sunday Streets, Neighborhood Beautification events, and any other volunteer events as assigned.
• While observing the district, you will report all violations, for example, graffiti and various deficiencies.
• Enforce City codes and Issue Notice(s) of Violation(s) and citations to non-compliant businesses, residents, and property owners.
• Coordinate merchant walks with commercial districts within Zone.
• Respond to inquiries, service requests, and complaints within your assigned district.
• Responsible for tracking and reporting time used on outreach and enforcement for graffiti, community events, illegal dumping, and so forth.
• You will maintain contact/mailing lists and other specialized lists for the districts assigned.
