Job Description

Traffic Operations seeks to hire one Civil Engineering Intern who will be responsible for engaging in research, investigations, and studies related to traffic signal engineering and central computer database design. The candidate will Investigate and resolve problems that occur with computer control equipment participate in field surveys, prepare records, and download related Traffic Control System (TCS) central database files of 13,600 computerized traffic signals. Participate in inspection operations by observing and replying to timing changes and legal requests and preparing engineering correspondence and reports. Review and examine traffic data plans collected by the computer system and field studies; suggest improvements in system performance. The successful candidate will review and examine to maintain the traffic control systems database to ensure optimum traffic signal operation. The candidate will be involved in preparing different designs and plans for centrally downloaded Transit Signal Priority (TSP) parameters, adaptive signal control plans, and holiday timing plans uploaded/downloaded to the traffic signal controller in the field as part of the new NYC bus lanes and TSP early action.


This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.
