*ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES*• This vacancy is only open to 1) current permanent employees serving in the Administrative Park & Recreation Manager civil service title or 2) on leave from the title or 3) permanent employees in or on leave from a comparable title (e.g. Administrative Staff Analyst or Administrative Manager) or 4) employees who took and passed the recent APRM exam (Exam No. 4505 or Exam No. 4005) or 5) employees who are reachable on a comparable civil service list. Please indicate on your cover letter and resume if you have taken and passed the recent APRM exam (Exam No. 4505 or Exam No. 4005).The Administrator of the Rockaways’ responsibilities encompass the neighborhoods of Broad Channel, Belle Harbor, Neponsit, Rockaway Park, Arverne and all of Far Rockaway. Included in these properties are over 30 parks and playgrounds, 80 greenstreets, 7 miles of pristine beach and 5 1/2 miles of boardwalk.Major Responsibilities• Manage the public use of parks, playgrounds and facilities at the Rockaways and Broad Channel.• Oversee the Maintenance & Operations staff for District 14.• Oversee the implementation of the Rockaway Conceptual Plan and completion of all projects related to the Beach and Boardwalk.• Liaise between Parks and the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, the National Park Service and various not-for-profit partners.• Attend community board meetings and respond to the requests made by community organizations, partnership groups and public officials.• Set Capital priorities, raise funds and oversee all aspects of Capital projects.• Consult in the preparation of landscape plans and contract documents necessary for construction and planting by Parks' restoration crews and contractors.• Build and expand partnerships with volunteers, corporations and community groups.• Obtain funding from elected officials and approvals for City and privately funded projects. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described in "1" above.Preferred Skills• Experience in organizational development, conservation and management of natural, historic and recreational resources. 2. Ability to work effectively with public agencies, volunteers and private groups to initiate projects and achieve measurable results. 3. Experience with the Capital Project process. Knowledge of horticulture, arboriculture and/or landscape architecture. 4. Excellent management, administrative and communication skills. 5. Ability to develop a budget and administer financial aspects of a project. Experience with fundraising. 6. A valid New York State driver license. 7.
